I had heated seats in my Mercedes. I think I used them twice.

My Mazda has seat-warmers. I might use them a couple of times a year. I could certainly live without them.

Right to repair and to own should be a constitutional amendment.

I want a dumb car that I can drive. Don’t want extra BS.
But this sounds like an opportunity for some people that know how, to make stuff so people won’t have to pay for “extras”.

A 12V source and a two dollar switch fixed Heated Seats. Saves $5.

We rolled over for software and app subscriptions. Why wouldn’t we roll over for this?

I payed for the hardware when I bought the car. I get the whole car or no car, everything on those wheels belongs to me. If not, they can keep the damned thing.

You'll pay monthly fees and be happy.

And your vehicle will not allow you to violate any traffic laws, or travel anywhere commoners are prohibited from traveling to.

I read somewhere that starting in 2025, that all new vehicles will have some kind of remotely-activated shutdown capability. SO IF Big Brother doesn’t like you, he can just shut your vehicle off.

way back in the day when IBM card sorters were a big deal, you could buy a basic model and later on pay big bucks for an upgrade to speed up card sorting ... to do the upgrade, IBM would send out a technician who would unlock a belt cover and shift a drive belt that connected a pair of step pulleys one or more steps depending upon what upgrade was paid for, and then relock the cover ... upgrade completed ...

I knew a futurist who predicted it years ago. They saw what computer companies did with software and hardware and wanted to make cares disposable like computers..

All the consumers advocates from the 70s and 80s now save the squid.

Even if you consider these features to be accessories, it wont stop with the “luxury features.”

The entire industry needs a reaffirmation that people have rights, since computers allow companies to control people’s lives and livelihoods. We’re in the age where what the internet allows shouldn’t always be encouraged and even should be resisted as a community.

Private possession of property and the right to do what you want with what you own is a foundation block to actual capitalism, not socialism.

And everyone laughed at the vehicles in Mad Max and asked “in what type of world would they have vehicles such as that?”.

This is how. There will be a great demand for parts (and mechanics) for the older vehicles and people will be building their own.

I could not possibly care less. I do without all that junk today and will for as long as I can.

Complexity removes reliability.
