The Republican brand is so badly damaged that such tactics are probably the only way forward for MAGA conservatives. I’d guess the chances of the MAGA message appealing to large parts of the Democrat base when presented under a different label are higher than the chances of MAGA conservatives primarying McConnell and Graham.
