Former Vice President Mike Pence on Friday directly rebutted Donald Trump’s false claims that he somehow could have overturned the results of the 2020 election, saying that the former president was simply “wrong.”
In a speech to a gathering of the conservative Federalist Society in Florida, Pence addressed Trump’s intensifying efforts this week to advance the false narrative that, as vice president, he had the unilateral power to prevent President Joe Biden from taking office.
“President Trump is wrong,” Pence said. “I had no right to overturn the election.”
In a statement Tuesday, Trump said the committee investigating the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol should instead probe “why Mike Pence did not send back the votes for recertification or approval.” And on Sunday, he blasted Pence, falsely declaring that “he could have overturned the Election!”
Vice presidents play only a ceremonial role in the the counting of Electoral College votes. Any attempt to interfere in the count would have represented an extraordinary violation of the law and an assault on the democratic process, sparking a Constitutional crisis.
Pence, in his remarks Friday to the group of lawyers in Lake Buena Vista, described Jan. 6, 2021 as “a dark day in the history of the United States Capitol” and framed his actions as in line with his duty as a constitutional conservative.

Every time Mike Pence says that, he reopens the wound of November 2020.
Mike’s Team will be promoting him based on the assumption that MAGA loyalists are the minority in the GOP, with NeverTrumps and McConnell style moderates making up the majority.
Some would call that plan A Fool’s Errand.
Pence is a jackass for trying to misrepresent the facts of what happened. He was only being asked to help initiate the Senate’s legal ability to investigate the results for 10 days. That was the plan put forth by Senators in the below declaration, not Trump.
“The most direct precedent on this question arose in 1877, following serious allegations of fraud and illegal conduct in the Hayes-Tilden presidential race. Specifically, the elections in three states-Florida, Louisiana, and South Carolina-were alleged to have been conducted illegally.
“In 1877, Congress did not ignore those allegations, nor did the media simply dismiss those raising them as radicals trying to undermine democracy. Instead, Congress appointed an Electoral Commission-consisting of five Senators, five House Members, and five Supreme Court Justices-to consider and resolve the disputed returns.
“We should follow that precedent. To wit, Congress should immediately appoint an Electoral Commission, with full investigatory and fact-finding authority, to conduct an emergency 10-day audit of the election returns in the disputed states. Once completed, individual states would evaluate the Commission’s findings and could convene a special legislative session to certify a change in their vote, if needed.
“Accordingly, we intend to vote on January 6 to reject the electors from disputed states as not ‘regularly given’ and ‘lawfully certified’ (the statutory requisite), unless and until that emergency 10-day audit is completed.
There is nothing to gain for Pence...or Trump for that matter. If Pence agrees that he could have reversed the outcome than he looks stupid and weak for not doing it. If he doesn’t agree than its another online catfight du jour between Trump and person X. Neither option brings him closer to the Oval office. The 2020 election is over, its time to start focusing on the next election tomorrow rather than sour grapes attacking potential allies for not having done enough yesterday in a way that has no strategic gain. Right or wrong Trump didn’t have what it takes and he should stop shooting his mouth off in ways that just end up undermining himself.

It’s almost shocking to see how clueless those types are. They think if they close their eyes and click their heels it will all go back to the way it was.
No one said Pence should “overturn the election”. What we said was. Check on the cheating first. Has he never heard of the hanging chad? Even with Bush-Gore we took time to check on things that seemed irregular. Having over 100% of registered voters voting is, to say the least, irregular and should have been checked out. Bringing out boxes of ballots from under the tables to count after repubs leave was irregular.
I saw a video of a state that had 1600 military votes in 2016 and in 2020 (when many were home because of covid) there were almost 10,000. There were not even that many troops deployed overseas at that time. THAT is irregular. Also, all the votes from the military were on 8.5 x 11 paper. Gee, easy to copy and 96% were for biden. And biden won the state by 10,000 votes. That is only 1 example. If I can find the video I will post it.

All we were asking Pence to do was look at the cheating factor. He declined and now we have biden.
His political career is over unless he becomes a Democrat (which is more appropriately termed an American Nazi) Anyone that has any knowledge of statistics and watched the state hearings in Pennsylvania and Michigan KNOW that they stole the election, period.

i agree Pence is wrong in many eyes no matter what he says so if he wants a political future he should stay away from this subject. BUT the 2020 election is not over because a lot of the factors that fixed the election have not been cleaned up. they may affect 2022 as D’s are Machiavellian connivers, we can’t be complacent. perhaps we need legislation firming setting national standards for election certification. i’m not sure if anything is percolating in that arena but maybe it should be,
"Fraudulent elections" as determined by who? That's the problem; one side claims fraud and the other denies it. Unless fraud charges are filed, arrests are made, trials conducted, and people convicted then it's always just going to be allegations.

This plan by Cruz would have been well known to Nanzi. She has a long history of Wrap Up Smear operations . Setting up the Capital Building for a riot would have been consistent with the way she operates. Her plot effectively killed Cruz’s plan dead .
Trump is not going to march into the White House before 2024 and finish off Biden’s term. He should focus more instead on future matters he still has a chance of affecting like the midterms and the treatment of the Jan 6th protestors. Humiliating Pence will not cause Biden to resign and offer Trump the Oval Office no matter what Pence could or couldn’t have done. I’m sure Pence would prefer to avoid the conversation if possible too.
