Mike Pence on Friday made his sharpest break yet with Donald Trump, saying the former president was “wrong” about Pence’s ability as vice president to overturn the 2020 election, calling the notion “un-American.”
Trump slammed Pence ahead of the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, for not having the “courage” to reject swing-state electors for then-President-elect Joe Biden, but Pence until now has more gently pushed back on Trump over it.
“I heard this week that President Trump said I had the right to overturn the election. President Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election,” Pence told a gathering of the Federalist Society in Orlando, Fla.
“The presidency belongs to the American people and the American people alone. And frankly, there is no idea more un-American than the notion than any one person could choose the American president. Under the Constitution, I had no right to change the outcome of our election.”

He’s dead Jim.
Yo Mike talk to the Pennsylvania court that said 2.6 million ballots were illegal. Just the tip of the freaking iceberg Mikey
Pence is once again lying. Trump never said he had the authority to overturn the election. He said he had the authority to send it back to the state legislatures to review the results to make sure there wasn’t fraud and cheating. Pence is a typical RHINO and is vying to lead that part of the party — to hell probably.
Buh-bye traitor Pence. Your days in the republican party are over.
Go back hoooooome to Indiana.. Mikey. Lying weasel that you are.
with every word he speaks the less I like him!
Yeah the American people voted in Joe Biden.
Big difference between legal and un-american. The question is did Pense have the legal authority to do this or not?
Trump never told the Dufus Pense to overturn the election, he told him to send the electors back to certain states that had illegally changed their voting laws,so their legislatures could look at that issue
Yeah Pence got it wrong, Trump NEVER said he wanted to overturn the election, he wanted an INVESTIGATION into what happened on election day, have hearings, bring in witnesses, and hold off on certifying the election til everything was sorted out
Trump didn’t ask Pence to “overturn” the election but put it on hold while the information developed. There was so much reporting of fraud, time was needed to confirm.
Pence thinks it’s more American to adhere to precedent than it is to ensure a proper election result.
Besides, it’s a whole lot easier to do what he did, and find a way to morally justify it after the fact.
According to this moron, any “certified election” is automatically valid. No one has the right to challenge it. Fraud is irrelevant. This is nothing more than CYA for his cowardice.
Even that is wrong. Congress has the authority to vote on contested electoral votes submitted by the states, but anyone who thinks the Vice President of the United States can unilaterally delay the certification of a presidential election is delusional. That's the stuff of Third World dumps.
Pence was a mole from day one
If I was a state legislator and a U.S. VP told me I had to "reconsider" the electoral votes my state had certified, I'd tell the guy to go jump off a bridge.
.
Pence promptly got a book deal and paid Cash for his new Mansion.
That’s all one needs to know. He achieved what he wanted.
Deep State.
.
The only way to legally contest the electoral votes from a state is to have someone in a position of legal authority in that state stand up and formally assert that the electoral are not valid -- or may have uncertain legitimacy.
The whole discussion here is absurd. Put the shoe on the other foot folks. What the hell would we be saying here if some @sshole like Al Gore (2000) or Joe Biden (2016) took it upon himself to stop the certification of that presidential election?
