I wonder if the media coverage would be different if it were Trump threatening war to defend a country that had given one of his children millions of dollars.

“Russia, North Korea, and Iran are inching closer to testing an electromagnetic attack on the U.S. grid, or parts of it.”

This thing is on the same timetable as Iran’s nukes. I’ve been hearing about both for decades now.

A weapon which destroys a national electrical grid, is by definition a WMD when you account for the complete effect in terms of destruction of life and the means of life.

Not permitted, just like any other nuke exploded above surface.

Not talking ‘bout no treaty, talking about the policy of this zoo since at least 1965.

1. Ukraine is a country
2. The Ukraine is a geographical region that predates the existence of the country.

Much like how America existed prior to The United States.

“Pry warned that up to 90% of the U.S. population could die during a year without power.”

Any chance we get to pick WHICH 90%?

Nope. The 90% mostly pick themselves: they have little to no food stock, don't own firearms, have no idea how to ferment (food or beer!), and mostly live in the city. Don't own any methods of water filtration or power generation, no idea how to tend a garden or preserve food.

You likely don't know if you're in that ~90%, but you certainly know if you're in the 10%!

Thank goodness I don’t have any kids in the draft age group!

Don't worry much. As long as they're "unvaccinated", the Army's currently kicking them out!

“I assume trucks would still somehow roll unless EMP knocks them out as well?”

Assuming the theory behind EMP is correct, most, if not all, trucks would never run again. Engines have too many electrical components to replace.

The only vehicles left running would be 1970s vintage.

There would likely be a LOT of vehicles still running. An EMP high enough to affect the entirety of North America, coast-to-coast, is going to be much weaker by the time the wave reaches the ground. So much less will be affected.

Also, much of the metal in vehicles acts as a Faraday cage, so many of the components will likely be protected enough. Cars and planes hit by lightning or downed power lines, do little to no damage, yet that's a strong pulse of EM power.

An EMP works by inducing so much current that it burns up and damages electrical components. Depending on strength of the wave and how well-built the components are, and EMP isn't an automatic death sentence for electronics, or every electric component would kill each other, every radio tower, speed gun, red light car sensor, cell phone, and so on would be killing every other electronic device.

I like and agree with your way of thinking. (so you should probably seek help!)

I’d bet the farm Brandon doesn’t have a clue as to how easy such an attack could be carried out, or the devastation that such an attack would cause.

I think the 90% dead would be within 3-4 months; sooner if it took place during cold winter months.
.............................................
Yep! Many people, some on FR, seem not to understand that a full-blown meltdown of the country’s power grid could, and probably would, cause murders on a massive scale, even cannibalism, as the food supply vanishes. People in hospitals on life support would die by the boatload, fuel supplies for the operation of homes, businesses, and motorized vehicles would become unobtainable. Deadly diseases would become widespread. So yeah, I think your estimates are quite realistic.

Food that will last for how long, and for how many people?

China has been buying-up USA farmland.
..........................................
That is because the morons who are elected/appointed to defend our country have done nothing to prevent China or any other country from doing so. They’re all too busy devising ways to become personally wealthy and the hell with the USA!

Yes, it would be horrendous. And many of the survivors would be relative short term survivors. Not many would last for longer than a few years.

I assume trucks would still somehow roll unless EMP knocks them out as well?
...........................................
An EMP attack would be intended to cause a major meltdown of the country’s electrical grid. Without electricity, gas supplies would become inaccessible within a week or less because the whole fuel supply system is dependent upon electric power. Also the operation of water supply systems for home wells and for the delivery systems of cities large and small require electric power.
