Then what good is it? Especially when you also have to consider those less pervasive side effects that are cropping up?
After analyzing the numbers a bit more, I want to revise my previous comment. The conclusion I come up with is that, based on the numbers given, the vax reduces your odds of getting hospitalized by about half. Perhaps more if we narrow the population to that most at risk. I tried to be totally impartial, just analyzed the data. Your feedback, comments, correction and/or criticism is welcome.
Here’s my analysis...
The vaccination rate for the population in question is 91%
And 87% of those who are hospitalized have been vaxed.
The unvaxed population is 9% of the whole (110-91). However the unvaxeds make up 13% of the people hospitalized - a significantlly bigger proportion (almost 50%) than the 9% of the population.
In other words, of 100 people hospitalized, 87 come from the 91% of the population that were vaxed and 13 come from the 9% of the population that were unvaxed. Which means you’re about 50% more likely to be hospitalized if you’re unvaxed. (13/9 vs 87/91)
So, for example, if that population size is 10000 people, and 100 go in the hospital, the probability of a vaxed person ending there is 87/9100, .95% whereas for the unvaxed he probability is 13/900 which is 1.44% or 1.44/.95 or 1.5 times greater (50% greater).
So if you believe these numbers, your odds of landing in a hospital is 50% greater if you’re unvaxed than vaxed.
So is it worth getting the vax if it reduces your chances of ending up in the hospital by about half?
I guess it’s all up to each one of us to decide. Given my age and health condition, I decided to get the jabs, but I’m also strongly against the mandate.
