Trump to Starbuck Backers: Ortagus 'Solid'; My Moves Have 'Worked Out'
NewsMax ^ | 2/2/2022 | Eric Mack

Despite blowback from some conservatives, former President Donald Trump is not changing his tune on endorsing Morgan Ortagus in the GOP primary for Tennessee's 5th District if she runs.

Social media influencer and House candidate Robby Starbuck has been a favorite among MAGA-supporting political strategists for his full-throated support for America First ideals, but Trump told Newsmax his endorsement of Ortagus – if she decides to run – was based on the candidate he knows versus the candidate he does not.

"Well, I didn't know Robby Starbuck; I have known Morgan; she's been in the administration; she did a good job," Trump told Tuesday's "Rob Schmitt Tonight."

"I didn't know Robby Starbuck. I hear good things about him, but I also hear he voted for Obama. If he voted for Obama, then I am very satisfied.

"I've heard he voted for Obama, but maybe he didn't."

Ortagus is a financial analyst and political adviser who was a spokeswoman for the State Department under the Trump administration.

It seems there was little research before this endorsement was made.

Trump to Starbuck Backers: Ortagus 'Solid'; My Moves Have 'Worked Out'

Yeah, the endorsement moves haven't worked out so great.

The final 2 paragraphs from the source article:

Trump suggested those questioning his judgment might want to look on his past endorsements and actions while he was president, telling host Rob Schmitt his moves have panned out.

“I’ve done a lot of things that were somewhat controversial and they’ve worked out,” Trump concluded. “She’s solid.”

It seems there was little research before this endorsement was made.

But, Trump says he knows her from her work under his administration. What other research are you talking about?

Her establishment ties are undeniable.

She’s a pretty lady that worked for him, while an actual conservative is also in the race.

I don't get a vote in this particular election, but I would take Trump's endorsement as a single point of data, one of many.

I value his opinion but feel free to disagree with him.

He’s made a series of bad endorsements.

Example:

He endorsed Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL). Diaz-Balart didn’t need an endorsement. He’s in a safe Republican district.

Mario Diaz-Balart was one of eleven house Republicans who sided with the Democrats to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from all committee assignments.

Agreed. Someone said “Endorse Ortagus”, he knew her from his administration, so he did it without a lot of thought.

Not buying Ortagus. Too many other past “infractions”.

I can’t vote in that election either - but this is one of the things I had hoped would change with President Trump after his horrific hires during his administration.

Other past endorsements include Romney, McConnel, Rubio, Graham. Those have not worked out well, at all.

Maybe they’ve “ worked out “ at the voting booth.

But, a lot of those you’ve endorsed have become swamp creatures rather quickly.

Robby Starbuck, a Franklin Republican, runs for Congress in Nashville with Rand Paul's endorsement

"Starbuck, 32, a California transplant who moved with his wife and children to Williamson County two years ago,..."

"He said he faced pushback after he "came out as a Republican" in Hollywood and began posting on social media about his beliefs in 2015,... "

"Starbuck, whose legal name is Robby Newsom,...He joked that he has "no relation" to California Gov. Gavin Newsom

Seems to me that Starbuck is an unknown video and commercial producer with zero political or government experience and questionable business executive experience.

I'm sticking with Trump's recommendation.

It seems like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz keep putting up candidates opposing Trump endorsements. Not sure that Cruz has endorsed Starbuck but they opposed Haggerty when Trump endorsed him.

I trust Trump. I don’t trust Paul or Cruz. Seems like they are vying for control of the party with their endorsements.

Obama was first elected 2009. That was before Starbuck came out as conservative in 2015. So it’s very possible Starbuck was supporting and voting for Obama back then.

Did Starbuck vote for Obama?? If he did I wouldn’t touch him with 500 mile long pole, regardless of what he has said or done since. THAT’S UNPARDONABLE SIN TERRITORY.
