The ground is swelling under the Three Sisters volcanic region in central Oregon.
The U.S. Geological Survey issued a statement that the rate of uplift in an area 12 miles across has risen nearly an inch between June of 2020 and August of 2021.
Yet, this latest uplift comes after some 25 years of activity. Scientists say it’s happening as lava is filling a space underground.

Kinetic global climate change?
There is a reason those volcanoes are poking up in the sky. Kind of like Mt. St. Helens.
Interesting.
I just flew over the Cascades on the way to Seattle. Its surprising how close Mt Adams, Rainier, St Helens & Hood seem to each other. If the entire area ever gets seismically active it’ll really be a sight to see.
Oh Lord... yes, the 80's were awesome.
If the entire area ever gets seismically active it’ll really be a sight to see.
Not in Seattle
The devil is trying to tempt the nuns from below...
Good point. It’ll be a sight to see from 35 thousand feet.
Good one.
An inch in the past 6 months, and a foot since 1995.
If it blows in the next few years (highly unlikely) I am close enough to hear it.
An inch in a year according to the excerpt.
And 12 inches in 27 years (so an average of less than 1/2 an inch a year). I’m guessing that some of those previous years were an inch and others 1/4 of an inch.
The media thrives on fear....and I loath it.
Slow uplift or none some years. So little, that ten years ago they considered that it had stopped.
So you’re saying the evil volcano has come back to life!! Aaaggghhh!!!!
Looked it up. The north and middle sister erupted relatively recently, the south sister hasn’t been active for thousands of years.
shes the old maid of the three
