Houston is fogged in today.
25-35 mph winds do not help. All stocked up, drove wife to work, and will pick her up at 3pm, hopefully just before the freezing rain begins.
Drive safely, snow is no big deal, ice will kill you quick.
Drip the faucets and especially those adjacent to outer walls. Cover outside spickets and remove any hose connections. Make sure auto’s have antifreeze windshield washer fluid and not straight water only.
For those so inclined wrap an old blanket or such over the vehicle’s battery and make sure to remove it before having to drive. I’m glad to have a closed garage for deep freeze weather like this.
My sweetheart in Las Colinas said the store was packed last night. Temp yesterday afternoon was 71 then it did a steady drop to 19 over the next two days without ever going up.
Growing up in Buffalo it always amuses me when I hear of cities panicking because they are expecting 2” of snow.
We barely notice 2”.
OGNTSA!
Governor Abbott, we’re watching you!
Yea, Buffalo probably has 3x the number of deicing trucks and plows that the entire DFW metroplex has. We get a little bit of revenge in the summer, when a 90 degree heatwave rolls through your neck of the woods. Weather will get you either way.
Un-possible, de earf has a fever.
Yeah, but I bet you freak when it gets over 95 degrees. Or also would if you had the intense storms in TX.
That’s my fear, if the power goes out anything like last year Beto will sail in. It’s not forecasted to last very long or as cold this time though.

Short of sabotage, you’re right. This is a normal cold snap for Texas and happens every winter - it is nothing like last year. Also, Abbott did a lot to winterize against a repeat.
Snow is a far cry from ice storms. I recall the 93 thanksgiving day storm. Even the cowboys had problems like lett going the wrong way after sliding on the ice.
A ping out to the Texas Ping list, founded by Windflier.
Another special Texas winter edition for your perusal. Yes, it is time for French toast!
Post your near death defying stories of ice and cold, and idiots at the store.
As always, please FReepmail me if you want on or off the Texas Ping list.
Blessings, and stay warm!
Ice storm warning for the Ohio Valley.
This will not be like the Deep Freeze Week last year.
ERCOT was/is responsible for that failure. NOT the oilies and power generation companies in TX. Bureaucrap greenie meddlers in our affairs cause many deaths and much unnecessary property damage.
This is an ice storm. Lots of over passes in the land of urban squalor.
South Texas ice storms are a nightmare because either people don’t know how to drive on it or should not be out in that kind of weather in the first place.
In 1989, Houston got hit with an ice storm during the afternoon rush hour. I was listening to the news/talk station. The announcer said that there were something like 1200 accidents and that they just couldn’t keep up with all of them. Then he said “Good Luck”.
