SANTA FE, N.M. — U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Luján is currently being hospitalized after experiencing a stroke last Thursday morning.
According to his chief of staff, Carlos Sanchez, Luján was experiencing dizziness and fatigue and checked himself into Christus St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Santa Fe. He was later transferred to UNM Hospital in Albuquerque.
“Sen. Luján was found to have suffered a stroke in the cerebellum, affecting his balance. As part of his treatment plan, he subsequently underwent decompressive surgery to ease swelling," Sanchez said.
We talked to KOAT health expert Dr. Barry Ramo to better understand precisely what that means.

"In the spectrum of strokes, this is an unusual type of stroke. The cerebellum is a fundamental structure in the brain. It has to do with coordination has to do with vision, has to do with speech has to do with movement," said Dr. Ramo.
The senator underwent decompressive surgery to reduce the swelling in his brain and is now resting at UNM hospital, but what does recovery look like after something like this?
"The recovery time depends on how much damage has occurred as a consequence of the stroke," said Dr. Ramo.
Dr. Ramo believes his young age will play a critical role in the road to recovery.
"There are many things in Senator Luján's favor. One is his youth, and he's otherwise been healthy. The fact that they did the surgery, and the surgeon feels that he's going to have full recovery is excellent news," said Dr. Ramo…

Never fear. The Democrats will come up with a creative way to fill in for their missing comrade. Or the Republicans will have one of theirs vote Democrat out of sympathy.
Look what they have done with this wet sock puppet biden they will do what ever is necessary
A lefty lesbian who has a “wife”. Just what we don’t need.
The “divine intervention” may well have been a vaxx side-effect.
If his doctors speak out on this their career is over by the time they finish the sentence.
Re: 7 - Stop sayung stupid things.
“The latest news could leave Democrats reliant on Republican votes to move forward on nominees and other priorities.”
That’s frightening.
Translation: the surgeon will get full recovery of his fees.
We don't want anybody dead. Besides, it is much better for us if this stiff is in a semi coma, rather than dead.
Safe and effective.
So, in a way, the consequences of his taking the frankenshot preventing the demoncraps from passing these bills IS effective in making America safer.
Senator Lujan won’t resign because he needs the taxpayers to pay his bills that instead need to be sent to Pfauxi and Pfizer.
I hope he lingers in a hospital bed for another 10 months.
Everyone pray he stays alive, with a promise to come back and vote “any minute”.
If NM had a Rep Gov, I’d be right there with you.
I appreciate your honesty. And I feel the same way.
I don't know or care about the demonRAT bastard senator, but we will be better off 50-49 if he lives.
Regarding the original hope for his death, don't worry, if he lasts too long the demonRATs will take him through Ft. Marcy Park.
I’m content with CRs (Trump era budgets) for the next four years. Hopefully the GOP is looking at this. Why negotiate a funding bill for this year (Rat budget), if the GOP takes the house this fall and has to settle on CRs going forward - keep the Trump budget in place for four more years
“Would you retain a doctor who encouraged you to keep getting COVID shots?”
My tech buddy tells me that people in that business, at least, are still scared to death of covid, even though with Omicron, it is now no different than a cold (not even a bad cold, just a cold).
I can’t help but think how much the drug companies are celebrating what they’ve pulled off - I know it wasn’t long ago that people were suspicious, very suspicious, of anything drug companies did.
I want to know why none of the MSM news/cable TV programs are not speaking to this issue which has such major ramifications. Nothing so far on Fox at all. This is a game changer event and all I’ve heard so far from the press is crickets.
Lindsey Graham will vote for him.
The senator in question had decompressive surgery so that denotes a bleed. Strokes caused by clots don’t require surgery generally but if recognized quickly, the clots might be chemically lyzed to save brain tissue.
Unless the dems pull a Scalia on him. Progress requires progress, you know.

I remember the debates about whether prescription drugs should be allowed to be advertised on TV. Like most people, I suspected the obvious, which was that the drug companies simply wanted to sell their more of their product, by having the drug users go to their doctor and demand Claritin, for example.
But now I think differently - what they really wanted was LEVERAGE over the media. And now, with half of all TV advertising (or close enough to half), they can simply threaten to pull advertising if the media gets too ‘nosy’ or ‘aggressive’. That’s why there’s never even been a hit piece against them since they started advertising, even prior to Covid.
“Sounds like they trephined his skull to keep swelling from damaging his brain. Fear of subdural swelling.”
probably more than trephining; they do something called “hinge surgery”, which i understand is where a large piece of skull is cut loose around three sides, but the fourth side only partially cut to allow a continuing blood supply ... they do that only when the stroke is severe enough to produce brain swelling, so despite all the happy talk about a “full recovery”, this was a severe stroke ... this guy isn’t going to be up and around any time soon, if ever ...
