A New Jersey gym owner who famously risked jail and financial ruin to remain open during lockdowns is now planning to run for Congress.
Ian Smith, the co-owner of Atlis Gym in Bellmawr, tweeted that he will be “formally announcing my campaign for Congress” on Thursday.

He did time for killing a kid while driving drunk. He doesn’t deserve to be on Congress. There have to be better options.

Sometimes God chooses flawed men to do great things. The bravery he has shown in the face of COVID tyranny more than qualifies him to run for any office . I would vote for him in a heartbeat.
Not only that, he has the same name as the former leader of Rhodesia. Think of the mental anguish he would cause BIPOC people and their white allies if he were elected.

or if it involves a virus protection extortion racket and you take out a wad of stock in biotech companies, then homicide is perfectly OK, as long as Big Pharma gets a few trillion in the process

Smith was sentenced to more than five years in prison in 2007 after driving drunk and killing a 19-year-old, according to NJ.com. He was sentenced when he was 20 years old.

Smith is an ex-convict, having been convicted of killing a teenager in a drunk-driving crash in 2007. 19-year-old Kevin Ade was killed when he was heading south on Vienna Avenue, when Smith, traveling west on Liebig failed to stop at a stop sign and slammed into the driver's side door of Ade's car. Ade was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy revealed that he died from multiple traumatic injuries. Smith was sentenced in 2008 to five and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to vehicular homicide. He was also charged with possession of marijuana and hypodermic needles.
This was 15 years ago, and he paid for it with 5 years in the slammer.

I stand by my statement. I would not vote for him. Bad decisions have consequences and he should continue running his gym. And from a more practical matter, He cannot win with his history. We would be throwing away an opportunity.
If you want to throw your $$$ into a losing cause, go for it.
