Black GOP candidates raking in big money

Black Republicans are among the party’s biggest fundraising stars, according to a report.

Wesley Hunt, a black GOP candidate running for Congress in the Texas’ 38th district near Houston raised more than a million dollars in the most recent funding quarter, October through December 2021, according to Roll Call.

The district — which leans heavily Republican and is majority white — was a creation of the 2020 census, which conferred two new seats on the Lone Star state.

Other black GOP contenders, such as ex-football star Herschel Walker, who is running for Senate in Georgia, raked in $5.4 million in the quarter. And in Florida Rep. Byron Donalds took in $2.3 million as of Sept. 30, according to the outlet.

The grass has been ever greener for the Senate GOP’s only black member, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, who banked $7 million in the last fundraising quarter of 2021, FEC records show.

“I think there is a pretty clear signal from Republican base voters, small-dollar donors and major donors as well. They’re excited about black candidates because black candidates are living breathing walking refutations of the liberal canard that American conservatism is inextricably intertwined with and dependent upon racism,” GOP strategist Luke Thompson told The Post.

And all things being equal, if when one gives money to good candidates, one can draw a card useful when accused of racism, why not go for it?

In the “conservative” leadership race in Canada last time round, I was happy to rank as my second choice a completely unqualified black woman, whose only obvious positive was that she wasn’t a complete sell-out like two of the four candidates (one of the these two pretended to not be a complete sell out for the sake of the campaign, but reverted to form in his acceptance speech). At least McKay always was clear that he was a snake in the grass. Sloan is like Romney less the integrity. And so Trudeau is relatively safe.

I support Kathy Barnett for senate in PA. she’s black and conservative and based on what she has experienced she can kick butt.

White guilt. With the performance of previous “conservative,” or “tea party” candidates, no republican is worth a dime until they have a conservative track record.

Good. Part of this may be more and more black folks are leaning right. Meanwhile both black and white conservatives know and respect the work it takes for a black conservative to overcome leftists’ efforts to ostracize them from the rest of black America.
