Pentagon seeks to ‘light a fire’ for American hypersonic missile plans

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will push the nation’s top defense companies to speed their development of hypersonic weapons in a high-level meeting next week.

The United States has “a lot of catching up to do very quickly,” US Space Force Gen. David Thompson told CNN, after weapons tests by China and Russia took US national security officials by surprise in recent months — and after the American military suffered two catastrophic test failures in 2021.

The highly maneuverable weapons fly at speeds in excess of Mach 5, five times the speed of sound — posing a dangerous threat to missile defense systems.

The Pentagon’s virtual meeting, set for Feb. 3, aims to “light a fire underneath the entire hypersonic industry,” according to executives at two of the dozen defense contractors — including Boeing, Raytheon, and Northrop Grumman — that have been invited to attend.

In October, American military officials sounded the alarm after China tested a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile, warning that the Chinese Communist Party will soon surpass American military capability.

They can pay for them from the infrastructure money. No speed cams yes to hyper missiles.

I’d be very surprised if we didn’t have this technology years ago. In fact the Russians and Chicoms probably got it from us.

How about we stop this insanity? We are 10 times bankrupt with current debt. We will be economically outmatched in the coming two decades by you know who. Whatever we build they can build more. For every engineer and scientist we have, they have 20 more and just as smart. We are going to have to live in peace with them or we will perish.

I agree with you, they have alot more people which means more engineers and scientists. They are also for the most part not diverse(in thought or by race) which contrary to what we are told is actually a strength.

When people think and act as one they can accomplish alot more than a people who are busy fighting among themselves and more worried about equity than getting the task done.

we need to stop calling it The Pentagon and start calling it The Pentagram because it has become truly evil and stantic.

China owns Brandon.

Not sure about the Pentagon.

But my statement still stands. If you go read what is in the open press about what the current state of hypersonic weapons actually is, and what is the state of the ability to counter/defeat them, they are a real threat.

If we had a hypersonic weapon already, would they advertise it?

I want to see a hypter-missile defense system. 50 years ago, David Wilkerson prophesied Russia would attack us, and we wouldn’t get off a single response. Then Europe would immediately surrender.

They did and freely admit it - our programs were canceled as unworkable and too expensive - during the Reagan years I think. It is possible that the information was so old that it was either in the public domain or gotten by FOIA

Its really ashame ... giving out comments like that when you could be making good money as a CCP influencer - they pay well with lots of ‘perks,’ especially if you ave your own YouTube account.

Or is that already the case?

This whole thing with the CCP hypersonic nuclear missile that circled the globe only appeared in the Financial Times as reported by anonymous sources ; from there it was picked up everywhere.

Further, the tech to make such a weapon work depends a lot on materials science - without a material than can withstand repeated skipping in an out of the atmosphere while under continuous external guidance under thrust is not easily made.

Not that such material does not exist, but it is odd that a nation that has that capability in material science cannot make crystalline turbine blades for its homemade jet engines and has to import them from Russia.
