“if I have to evacuate from a hurricane”

The Florida Building Code is requiring older houses to made hurricane resistant when roofs are replaced.

The Florida Building Code has requiring new houses to be hurricane resistant for about 28 years now.

If you have a friend nearby with a hurricane resistant house, make a phone call and bring plenty of beer and tasty food.

................
Prior to the rein of Jimmih the Peanut Farmer S. Fl had a pretty strict building code. Built to 135mph sustained winds.
Wiring in metal conduit, no asphalt shingle roofs, wood frame houses so reinforced they were price prohibitive.
Jimmih got the code reduced to increase low price housing.
Romex wiring, asphalt shingle roofs, stick built homes.
There was a 1000sq ft minimum size also.
Jimmih got around that by measuring the Exterior dimensions instead of Interior.

“a hurricane resistant house”

I don’t know aboutyou but I’ve lived in Fla since 1969 and I can tell you under the right conditions there is NO such thing as a hurricane resistant house.
