Two New Polls on Trump vs. DeSantis
NR ^ | January 28, 202 | Could DeSantis Beat Trump?

Posted on 01/28/2022 3:17:48 PM PST by conservative98

Two new polls show Florida governor Ron DeSantis with a realistic shot of defeating Donald Trump in a 2024 primary.

The former president remains the strong favorite, but he’s under 50 percent in the latest YouGov survey:

GOP Presidential Polling:

Trump: 46%
DeSantis: 21%
Pence: 6%
Haley: 6%
Carlson: 2%

YouGov / January 24, 2022 / n=1568 / Onlinehttps://t.co/axPvpnEU7N— Polling USA (@USA_Polling) January 28, 2022

A new poll by Echelon Insights shows that DeSantis’s position has improved in the last few months in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup:

TRUMP v. DESANTIS two-way GOP primary:

Trump 57%
DeSantis 32%

In October, this was Trump +40. Today, it's Trump +25. pic.twitter.com/1vYJYby3EN— Patrick Ruffini (@PatrickRuffini) January 27, 2022

As pollster Patrick Ruffini notes, Trump’s lead over DeSantis is only 16 points among Republicans who have heard of the Florida governor. We are of course still 24 months from the kickoff of presidential primaries and caucuses — plenty of time for average Republican voters to get to know DeSantis.

For more on DeSantis’s 2024 path and calculus, see Rich’s (Could DeSantis Beat Trump?) piece from last week.

Ok, but not as looney as Ron. That man had some real pie in the sky ideas.

Yup. But honestly I don’t want another 78-year-old.

I have a hard time getting past the poor choices Trump made at the start of this pandemic, in particular keeping on Fauci. If he gets the nomination of course I'd vote for him, but I'm not sure he's the best choice. Also he'd be over 80 by the time he left office. I've gotten to the point that I think that we need an age limit for these offices.

Love the EverTrump. I love Trump but recognize he’s mortal like everyone else.

“Ok, but not as looney as Ron. That man had some real pie in the sky ideas.”

Yea, Ron Paul was something else! But like you, probably, there will always be a place in my heart for some of his 434-1 votes (Ron being the “1”, obviously) on things like naming a tree after a dead police killer, or whatever ceremonial votes they have. Ron would CORRECTLY say that there’s no Constitutional basis for the bill.

“What’s that have to do with it?

They’re quoting other polls. Not their own.”

Because Rich Lowry has been writing articles about how Trump could lose.

Rand is interesting, he’s done some great work holding Fauci accountable.

His rally speeches are often as you describe. I’m referring to his more formal speeches often written by Stephen Miller.

One can have a great speech but be a terrible lector.

Trump does not read well. He sounds like he’s really sick. Very dull.

Yes, Trump was not impressive either on how loyal his picks were, or just how good they were, and that he felt the need to have a turnstile for his cabinet.

The age thing though, is the corker for me.

I am pro-Trump but then I’m pretty pro-any Republican.

I’ll vote for any of them before and commie Dem.

Yes I can really respect his sticking his neck out. Something that doesn’t happen much.

“I have a hard time getting past the poor choices Trump made at the start of this pandemic, in particular keeping on Fauci.”

Even more problematic - he still doesn’t like the idea of dumping Fauci. Even Bill O’Reilly knows Fauci should have been history a long time ago:
“Trump defends *NOT* firing Dr. Anthony Fauci”

Trump wasn't listening to Fauci since the beginnin of the pandemic. He was there for 500 years. So you can't blame Trump for that and he did what he could to shut him out.

July, Fauci says he hadn't talked to Trump in at least 2 months

July, Fauci blocked from doing TV appearances

July, CNN reports: Dr. Anthony Fauci is practically invisible right now.

August, Trump brings in Scott Atlas as Special Coronavirus Advisor to Trump,

Trump ‘counters’ Fauci by introducing new coronavirus advisor

October, Trump says he stopped listening to Fauci a long time ago.

Trump calls Fauci a 'disaster' and says it would be a 'bomb' if he fired him

"People are tired of hearing Fauci and all these idiots — these people, these people that have gotten it wrong," Trump said. "Fauci’s a nice guy. He’s been here for 500 years. He called every one of them wrong. And he’s like this wonderful guy, a wonderful sage telling us how" to respond to the pandemic.

It’s National Review folks. Since when have we done anything but snicker and snipe at an NR article?

Several other recent polls have shown him with far less of chance.

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2022/01/03/poll-trump-dominates-republican-primary-poll-by-43-points/

Former President Donald Trump is dominating the Republican Primary in a hypothetical matchup, a Reuters/Ipsos survey found.

They survey asked all respondents, “Thinking about the presidential election in 2024, who would you support as the Republican nominee for president?”

Overall, a majority, 54 percent, of Republicans said they would support Trump. Only one other potential candidate garnered double digit support — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who saw 11 percent support. However, that still leaves him 43 points behind the former president.

Former Vice President Mike Pence came in third place with eight percent support, followed by former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley (four percent), and Sen. Ted Cruz (three percent). Remaining potential candidates, including Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Josh Hawley, and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie all garnered two percent support or less. Overall, 14 percent of Republicans said they are “not sure” who they would ultimately support.

Polls of any kind are useless now. Can we wait until candidates decide if they are running?

Fauci disappeared. Then Biden won the election and brought him back in.

2024 will be about voters getting even for 2020 being stolen. Whoever gets Trump’s support is going to have a huge edge.
