A Wisconsin judge was set to hear arguments Friday on whether prosecutors should return to Kyle Rittenhouse the rifle he used to shoot three people during a street protest.
Rittenhouse shot the men during the protest in Kenosha in 2020. He killed Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz in the arm. Rittenhouse argued he fired in self-defense after each of the men attacked him. A jury last year acquitted him of multiple charges, including homicide.
Rittenhouse's attorney, Mark Richards, filed a motion Jan. 19 asking prosecutors to return Rittenhouse's rifle, his ammunition, his face mask, and other clothing he was wearing the night of the shooting to him. Richards and David Hancock, a spokesman for Rittenhouse, said last week that Rittenhouse wants to destroy the rifle and throw the rest of the items away so nothing can be used as a political symbol or trophy celebrating the shootings.

He could auction that rifle and make a fortune for some charity.
Written by unidentified hack at the AP. Blake wasn’t just some unlucky black guy, he was armed but the author(s) leave that part out.
There is no justification for them keeping his property, period.
He could do anything he wants.....
...and this is what he wants....
....so we should respect this!
It is unconstitional and illegal to hold his gun and keep it from him since he was acquitted of a crime. It should have been handed back to him on his way out of the courtroom.
See this for a facts about who the two Rittenhouse killed really were.
Not exactly upstanding citizens of the community:

Both are untrue political disinformation and are not pertinent to the news story about Rittenhouse's civil court action.
Either way, it is no longer required for evidence and needs to go back to its rightful owner.
It should be kept in service as a role model for other "guns".
Destroying the rifle sends the wrong message — that the rifle itself is evil and that we need to stop redneck gun owners from turning it into a shrine. He should keep it for a while and then donate it to some poor, handicapped woman who needs it for self-defense.
Grosskreutz was the guy with the Glock that was fixing to shoot Kyle before Kyle shot his arm off.
Grosskreutz was a felon in possession of a firearm. Was he ever charged for that? IF not, why not? (FIB asset??) Where is that Glock today?
It’s his gun, he was acquitted, there is no reason not to return it.
None whatsoever. It should've been returned to him the day he was aquitted.
That's more right than wrong.
It was purchased for him by a friend as Rittenhouse was under age (17) at the time.
It was intended to become his property at age 18.
Not strictly in compliance with state laws.
Stomping on private property rights, again.
The Trayvon gun sold for $175K.
I would have Kyle’s gun on Ebay for 250K so fast Antifa’s head would spin like the girl puking green soup!
You seem to believe that you live in a Nation where you have the Right To Equal Protection Under The Law.
Where do you live?
Agreed.
