Ian Smith, co-owner of New Jersey-based Atilis Gym, was sentenced Thursday after refusing to close his gym during the Garden State’s lockdown and resisting all orders from the state.
The defiant gym owner was fined $1.2 million for his noncompliance but he never backed down, going so far as to remove the gym’s doors so police couldn’t lock them.
“Thanks to all who joined in on our sentencing hearing. So many came that the server crashed. We got one year probation for the crime of taking our doors off to prevent government goons from locking us out of our gym. @theatilisgym is open and will remain open at any cost,” he said on Twitter.
...
Last year, Smith warned Gov. Phil Murphy the only way the Democrat would ever be successful in closing his gym's doors is when he's dead.
“We have been open against unconstitutional shut down orders since May,” he said in December of 2020. “Not once have we flinched, and the petty tyrant of New Jersey governor Murphy has tried everything he could possibly think of to ruin us. Over seven months later we will open our doors every single day. No government official will ever tell me that I am not able to provide for my family. I do not answer to public servants – no matter what threats or punishments they impose. I am a free man. I do not ask for permission. I do not ask for forgiveness. You work for us. The only way you’ll ever close these doors is when you close my casket.”
1.2 million, lol.
Eff the totalitarian marxist state.
Be interesting to know how many of his regulars got their virus from using that gym.
Probably very few toolbag... But, you miss the entire point of someone standing up for their freedom. Did you enjoy basement life?

Probably all of them, which is natural, and has most likely made them stronger today from it. Just like the reason they go to the gym…..to live a healthy lifestyle and get stronger. It’s called living your life without constant fear mongering!
This is outrageous since now we know locking down businesses didn’t do squat and was wrong as far as the United States constitution goes. Also this man’s business actually is necessary as exercising is vital to being healthy. Seriously how much are we supposed to take?
“ Be interesting to know how many of his regulars got their virus from using that gym.”
Oddly enough, healthy people tend not to get sick. Our gym closed for a month, but not at all since early 2020. No covid there.
Oh, brother.
If anyone DID get the virus from using that gym, they went there as free people making choices about their own bodies.
Amazing how many FReepers discount and dismiss liberty.
It doesn't matter. What matters is that free people were able to choose to go to a gym or not go to a gym. They are not slaves. We take risks in life but freedom is worth it.
Also to be considered: what are the health risks of not working out?
If you don’t work out, you just don’t understand.
You cannot be serious.
What about the millions who take the totally cramped, overcrowded NYC subway trains every day? You worried about them too?
“Be interesting to know how many of his regulars got their virus from using that gym.”
Does it really matter? We are all going to get it at some point, where makes no difference....at least to me.
Do you think for a moment that if even ONE case were traced to his gym that the petty Tyrant would not have made a federal case over it?
Not to mention the clowns in the media.
In case its not obvious, regular gym members are some of the healthiest and least likely to be affected.
A modern day hero. Our government is really pushing the limits of what ordinary people will take.
What difference does it make? They are not cringing, cowering, quivering little people afraid 😱of their own shadows.
This is not a country for the weak or inadequate.
Awesome!
This guy deserves the CMOH (Civilian Medal of Honor).
What crime is it to remove your own doors?
It’s considered a public access area, so they just made it even more accessible that before.
I assure you that the state was all over ‘cases’, anything to smear this guy to take him down.
If there was even ONE, it would have made headlines for WEEKS.
