Nearly 100 cases of the Omicron subvariant BA.2 have been identified in the United States, which is now present in nearly 50 countries around the world. As scientists continue to study whether it causes more or less severe illness than Omicron BA.1, officials in Denmark, where the subvariant is dominant, are weighing in.
"There is no evidence that the BA.2 variant causes more disease, but it must be more contagious," Danish Health Minister Magnus Heunicke said during a news conference on Wednesday.
Preliminary calculations suggest BA.2 could be 1.5 times more infectious than BA.1, Denmark's top infectious disease authority, Statens Serum Institut (SSI), said in a note on Wednesday.
However, an initial analysis by the institute showed no difference in the risk of hospitalisation for BA.2 compared to BA.1. (Reuters)
"There is some indication that it is more contagious, especially for the unvaccinated, but that it can also infect people who have been vaccinated to a greater extent," said SSI's technical director, Tyra Grove Krause, according to Reuters.

Yes, and they’re frequently coupled with angry/frightened eyes above the mask.
Fortunately, I see very few N95 masks in my area. (And I’m sorry, but they just look silly.)
I give the cloth/paper mask wearers the benefit of the doubt. My neighbor had Covid recently and while she’s anti-mask, she wore one to CVS about a week after she recovered just to make sure she didn’t give it to anyone since she still had remnants of the cough. People doing that are a small minority but I’ll cut ‘em slack. Just don’t ask me to wear one. :)
I would cut someone like that some slack, too.
Otherwise, get your exposure in small doses when the viral load is small, which will give you immunity without a serious case of the disease.

This sounds like essentially the same scenario as the original Omicron, with only marginally more speed and spread.
We are about pegging the meter for spreading immunity across the population already, this will just be a bit of caulking in the remaining cracks.
I’m still waiting on catching the more contagious Delta Variant that I was promised last year.
Just had 3 vaxxed people out of 8 in my office get COVID and my unvaxxed wife and I were exposed to all three. No illness for us.
I have been going unmasked this whole time except for wearing a thin neck gaiter you can see through when mandatory. Been taking vitamins D3 ,C ,B complex, Zinc, Quercetin, and NAC since February 2020. Kept my dirty hands away from my eyes, nose, and mouth.
We haven’t been sick with anything since December 2019 which then wasn’t COVID.

So contagious shielding does not protect
Prior immunity from having had a previous covid infection …or being vaccinated…does not protect from Omicron ( though vaxx may keep at risk population from severe disease and out of the hospital)
The only scientific reason to get vaxx is for yourself

The good news…it’s a mild ( nonlethal) variant for healthy people of all ages, and seems to provide immunity from reinfection, at last from more omicron mutations, which can be expected given the rapid global spread even reinfecting those recovered from past variants and those taking vaxxes
Omicron seems to be turning covid from a pandemic to an endemic, like flu

We have had oh-my-chron, still do sort of. The snot factory is still open. Shudder to think if that mess was in our lungs. Never even thought about that with a cold. The junk just hangs on and on and on.
We are unjabbed and plan to remain that way.
Local hospital is full for the first time since this mess began. It appears to be a place to go to die for the most part.
Apparently no more monoclonal antibodies since the gooberment declared they don’t work on oh-my-chron. Sure is odd after they worked so well on the previous versions.
Limited staff so who is taking care of whom?
This isn’t going away and their vaccination is as futile as one for the cold or the many mutations of the flu.
Better get off their high horse and focus on therapeutics or just withdraw from the field.
Watching this year’s flock of Canada Geese graze in the pasture. There are about two dozen of them this year on the pond. Just don’t see how they find enough to eat but they do.

I try to ease my mind with those thoughts when I have concern for God’s creatures. Sometimes it helps.
Getting enough Vitamins B6, C, D, E and K plus supplemental zinc from a daily multivitamin pill can really help in this case.
Eff them and their GD panic punk attempts at control.
12/03/2021: Lab Alert: CDC Update on the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron Variant
Yup, after exhaustive testing, you have a cold.
It is purposely written so no one understands it. My first thought was to a “greater extent” meant triple jabbed.
The videos by Dr Campbell that I posted above show that this is outdated info. There are tests for Omicron. However not every testing center has the capability.
At this point Dr Campbell is suggesting Omicron has virtually wiped out the other variants
