US, NATO Convey Written Response To Russia On Security Demands As Ukraine Tensions Mount

The US and NATO on Wednesday delivered a written response to Russia against the draft of security guarantees Kremlin demanded last December.

The United States and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) on Wednesday delivered a written response to Russia against the draft of security guarantees Kremlin demanded last December.

In its proposal, NATO rejected the list of demands Russia handed over after Moscow increased military concentration in the eastern European borders. "Our response outlined three main areas where the international military bloc observed room for progress," NATO Chief Jens Stoltenberg said in a statement, while US State Secretary Antony Blinken stated that the letter offered Russia a serious diplomatic path" to end the impasse.

"NATO is a defensive alliance and we do not seek confrontation. But we cannot and will not compromise on the principles on the security of our alliances and security of Europe and North America,” NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said at a news conference, citing the written response to Russia.

US Ambassador to Russia, John Sullivan delivered Washington's reply to Russia. It is to mention that Russia had called for the withdrawal of NATO expansion in terms of troop deployment and weapons from eastern Europe, mostly from ex-Soviet republics.

The draft proposal was sent by Kremlin after US intelligence detected nearly 1,00,000 Russian troops amassed along the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine in October, sparking speculations of invasion of Kyiv. However, despite hostile assertions, Russia has maintained that it does not intend any harm to the sovereignty of the former Soviet country.

US, NATO reject Kremlin's demands

Both US and NATO also clarified that it will uphold it's post-1997 border and sought "re-establishment" of diplomatic ties between the US-led bloc and Russia. While the international military alliance also called on Moscow to enter into a dialogue-based resolution of tensions along the Donbas region in Ukraine, Blinken asserted that the US will uphold NATO's 'Open Door Policy.' The US official's remarks came against Russia's vehement opposition to Ukraine's efforts to join NATO and urged the US to suspend its admission process.

"The document we’ve delivered includes concerns of the United States and our allies and partners about Russia’s actions that undermine security, a principled and pragmatic evaluation of the concerns that Russia has raised, and our own proposals for areas where we may be able to find common ground,” US State Secretary Antony Blinken told reporters on Wednesday.

Blinken refused to divulge intricate details from the response. He specifically highlighted the American position and concerns over Russia's actions. Meanwhile, Stoltenberg, in his statement, emphasised that "Russia should refrain from coercive force posturing, aggressive rhetoric, and malign activities directed against allies and organisations," adding that Moscow must pull back forces from Georgia and Moldova as well.

NATO prepared to listen to Russia's concerns Stoltenberg also informed that the letter from NATO pressed on promoting transparency and expanding the use of existing military channels to enhance cooperation with Russia. He also added that NATO affirmed to listen to Russia's concerns and "engage in a real conversation on how to uphold and strengthen the fundamental principles" of European security. Calling for practical measures and "serious" discussions over arms control, Stoltenberg concluded saying that the Allies are "ready to meet" as soon as possible.

“The same Russians who spent $100K on Facebook ads to swing the election to Trump in 2016, right?”

You’re funny. I say you’re using these same tactics and strategies as your Russian troll farm buddies and how do you answer me?

By using these same tactics and strategies as your Russian troll farm buddies.

Pathetic.

Russia can do with their oil and gas whatever they want. It’s not my concern. To the contrary, I think the Europeans are idiots to depend upon the Russian dictatorship for anything more than vodka and attractive prostitutes.

The only ones who can bring so called democracy to Ukraine are the Ukrainians and thus far they’ve proven incapable of initiating that effectively.

Oh just knock it off....you guys show how outdated and juvenile your thinking is whenever you respond to anyone who doesn’t agree with your views in anything regarding Russia.....it’s truly nauseating seeing the same old slurs and innuendos time and again.

There are good people here who are making the effort to understand and get a full picture on events in order to draw their own conclusions. Crying out the same old worn out cold-war mentality tunes isn’t one of them.

What’s pathetic is you trotting out the same sad neocon lies as cheap cover for war-mongering across the globe, destructive color-revolution, and corruption for your DC cronies. You can’t believe the nonsense you spout, so there’s got to be other reasons.

Tell everyone how America benefits from destroying places like Libya and Syria, launching two million refugees into Europe? Or from harassing Donald Trump for 4 years with fake stories of “Russia Collusion” and impeachment over “Ukraine favor seeking.” All while opening America’s borders wide-open

Now that Biden has been imposed on America, its clear you are again emboldened to again spout the “Russia Collusion” garbage.

The good thing is, people here are pushing back

“Russia lost any credibility when they conducted their ham-handed and cowardly invasion of Ukraine in 2014.”

Well, depends on what you mean by credibility.

Russia showed its credibility when it opposed Georgia’s flirtation with NATO and invaded the latter in 2008 (its steadfast position was that former Soviet states cannot join the West); but it lost it when it said Georgia had the right to determine its own destiny (of course, it was okay if that destiny was pro-Russia).

Putin plays both sides of the coin, first one, then the other; and he manipulates each according to circumstances. He responds to opportunity; but to trust him is to court disaster. Putin is KGB, through and through; and he is ruthless. Putin is the son that Stalin wishes he had had (instead of the disappointing Yakov).

The thing is, that assertion that there was only about $100k worth of Russian advertisements is correct. We notice that you don’t address the actual fact.

"This is always the fate of corrupt regimes to fall suddenly when the people they oppress no longer fear them"

So if tomorrow the current Ukrainian government falls and a new one loyal to Russia pops into being... will you agree with what you just said?

Pro-Russian Ukrainian politicians receive about 10% of the national vote. The only way a "new one loyal to Russia pops into being" is if its installed by force by Putin.

Well your the one who is advertising the false fact that NATO will kick the Russians ass.

Here is a fact for you little one.

Trump constantly told the Euro nations, and the rest of the world, to not become reliant on Russia for that oil and gas.
So what’d they do? They hated Trump so much that after the election was over, they canceled shipments of gas and oil from the USA. Aside from that, Merkel, the east German WHORE, promptly advanced the deal with the Russian for gas and oil while shutting down their power plants-coal and nuclear.
So Russia supplies 40% of the Natural Gas to the Euro nations, and about 50% of the oil. All of those nations are in NATO.
Are you really immature enough to think that NATO will go to war with the very country that supplies them with a majority of their gas and oil?
Meanwhile. pig faced Bidet destroys the oil producers within this country so we are no longer a major player in the oil market..which Trump had worked to do.
