Court affirms ruling against bakery, wants fine revisited

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Court of Appeals for a second time has upheld a ruling by the state civil rights division that found that an Oregon bakery illegally discriminated against a same-sex couple by refusing to sell them a wedding cake in 2013.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports, however, the court on Wednesday also found the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries did not exhibit religious neutrality in issuing an $135,000 fine to Sweet Cakes by Melissa for illegal discrimination and returned the case to the civil rights division to reassess its fine.

The case began nine years ago, when Laurel and Rachel Bowman-Cryer filed a complaint against Sweet Cakes by Melissa owners Melissa and Aaron Klein, saying the bakery refused to bake them a wedding cake.

An attorney who represented the Kleins did not respond to a message from Oregon Public Broadcasting requesting comment. The media outlet reported that the couple has moved their bakery to Montana, according to state business registration records.

Fine, then when does the judge order Chase to provide banking services to conservative groups?

I wouldn’t bake them a cake either. You have to make a stand.

Yeah, that will work. Asking liberal courts to be reasonable, what could possibly go wrong?

Oregon is a dying state. Unfortunately, blue rats also flee to red states. Somehow this must be stopped.

Easy solution:

1. Sell all cakes, pastries, assorted baked goods except for wedding related orders.

2. Setup private cake decorator service catering to churches and synagogues.

“Another reason not to go to Oregon.”

Plenty of soy boy, man-bun wearing, spineless, Latte sipping, laptop cuddling Portlanders showing up on the Front Range of Colorado.

The younger mountain lions will be probably saying something like “I thought you said they tasted like chicken” to the older lions.

Put a sign on the wall behind the counter. “15% of ALL Cake Sales will be Donated to “Get Out of Being Gay Organization”.

Bake the cake.

As I’ve often said, be it flowers, photos or cakes…if I’m coerced into servicing a “marriage” that I personally find abhorrent, I’ll do everything within my power to make sure it’s a “wedding” day they’ll never forget.

Why on earth would you want to force ANY business of ANY type to serve you, knowing that it’s the last thing they want to do?

$135K for a stupid cake. In a case that should be groundless from the start. And no doubt they have $75K in legal bills.

It's really simple. Since this bakery was known to be conservative, the pervs targeted it especially, knowing they would refuse to make them a wedding cake and thus setting the stage for a mean-spirited lawsuit. If they didn't have driving a conservative business out of business via a lawsuit, they could have picked any one of a number of similar businesses, but that wasn't their purpose. They wanted to punish the conservative business for not being willing to recognize their perv "union". They used the law as a cudgel, which is not right. I wonder if they're still married. I certainly don't wish them well.

Sexual orientation is a protected class. Political orientation is not.

The world is upside-down.

This is actually the work of our “conservative” Supreme Court, which had the golden opportunity to put this First Amendment squashing issue to bed permanently, but didn’t.
