In the 50s & 60s, it was SNOW. Then it became Nor’Easter, and now it’s Bomb Cyclone. (((SIGH)))

Nor’easters are simply storms that follow a certain development and track pattern. Not every snow storm is a nor’easter.

A bomb cyclone is not necessarily a nor’easter. It just describes a storm where rapid intensification of the storm happens with the central pressure dropping 24 mb in 24 hours, which results in strong winds.

Snow, nor’easter, and bomb cyclone are not synonymous terms that can be used interchangeably.

This is one time we can’t blame it on the Algore effect. He’s scheduled to speak on Jan 30th, but in New Mexico. LOL

The barometric pressure bottomed out during the blizzard of 1978. That made it the cyclone. The snow was coming down sideways. Could not see much past the windows. It was impressive, that storm.

“Then it became Nor’Easter”,

Wrong. The term “Nor’Easter” has been used since the 1700’s.

I have not yet personally met a meteorologist who is a globull warming huckster. Matter of fact, I have never seen anything tick off a meteorologist as much as bringing up global warming.

Meteorologists forecast WEATHER and know that far more is involved in weather and climate than simply CO2 levels. They know how much we really don’t know about what drives the weather.

Once you get into the climate change hysteria, look at government folks like politicians. They’re the ones with the simplistic answers and solutions that only result in more tyranny over the populace and money from taxes.

“Bomb cyclone.” Be afraid, be very afraid. Back in the 50’s, we were taught to hide under our desks in school. Yeah, that’ll do the trick.

That’s encouraging to hear. I remember when tv weather forecasters started using the elnino or elninia phenomena - tropical ocean temp stuff - like it was something new. Their excited descriptions were loaded with globull warming lingo. All repeating the same lines. I kept thinking, they’re acting like this hasn’t been going on since the beginning of time. They should be talking in terms of fluid dynamics.

El Nino and La Nina describe certain weather patterns in the tropics that do affect the weather here.

You could call them Southern Pacific Oscillations but the short phrase of El Nino conveys a whole lot more information to a meteorologist, just like the terms nor’easter and bomb cyclone, than most people realize.

A good site to visit is Weartherbell that Joe Bastardi is part of. On the homepage about half way down, under their bios, is something called the Saturday Summary where he talks about weather patterns and what they mean for the up coming week. He often explains those terms and when he does, you understand why meteorologists go for the economy of words that nor’easter and bomb cyclone provide.

He can be a bit goofy at times, but knows his stuff.

Remember the good old days when the headline would have simply read “Blizzard to Hit Boston” and only hurricanes got names?

In my corner of AZ, it's supposed to be about 60 degrees today, with deep blue, sunny skies with a mild southwesterly breeze. ...☺

A bit cool, but somehow we'll survive.☺
