I think he’s just figured out that the liberal pool is full and if he jumped in it no one would notice. But if he stand on the sidelines and harasses those who are already in, he gets attention and headlines, which ultimately translate to money for him.

I suspect Maher actually has some honest opinions, firmly held, but he’s primarily a devil’s advocate. That’s what puts food on the table.
