The world’s oceans cover approximately 139.38 million square miles. To increase the volume of water in the oceans by 2 feet, this glacier/ice capo would need to contain approximately 58,129,943,224,320,000 gallons of water
Folks - this was ICE that was already floating in the ocean before it broke off. Ice displaces the amount of water it represents in total - even when frozen - so the net amount of sea level rise is ZERO.
Same if the entire Artic ice mass melted - net ZERO sea rise.
Now if you take a large part of say — Greenland - and put that ICE into the ocean - maybe something happens.
They are concerned about the freshwater mixing with the salt water and affecting sea life that depends on the salinity - of itself - that makes sense.
