“The NYPD is still the biggest gang in New York City,” spat rookie City Councilwoman Kristin Richardson Jordan upon taking office Jan. 2.
Nineteen days later came the murder of NYPD Officer Jason Rivera in Jordan’s Harlem district, and she was crooning a slightly different tune: “A loss of one is a loss to the whole,” she said. “I stand with the families of the fallen.”
An act of contrition? Or a statement of convenience?
Most likely the latter. For one thing, standing “with the families of the fallen” isn’t the same as standing with cops willing to give their lives for your constituents. For another, it’s really, really hard not to picture a thought bubble over this bitter woman’s head: “One cop down, 35,999 to go.”
Still, as this newspaper detailed over the weekend, Jordan wasn’t the only usual suspect to be trimming rhetorical sails following Rivera’s murder. Some were backtracking so egregiously that maybe something besides vice paying homage to virtue is going on.
Take Public Advocate Jumaane Williams: “Hiring police officers is sending the wrong message,” he said right after Macy’s Herald Square was looted in 2020. But post-Friday came this: “[Rivera died] while trying to protect another New Yorker’s safety as countless officers do every day.”

So torn...
Of course I want to save Police. But the NYPD have unique challenges...
.... Like arresting unvaccinated people. Keeping people from their constitutional rights. Stop and frisk. The list goes on.
I’m not totally against “Defund the police” and I’m all for it when they are used as gestapo. And when they enthusiastically fill that role.
There's life after NYPD. NYC Citizens will have what's left after the great exodus. Good luck with that. I don't go there for any reason any more. It's Mogadishu on the Hudson.
Politicians need to understand that the their CARELESS use of WORDS regarding “law and order” can become SWORDS in the hands of those who could CARE LESS about it.
Not seeing this.
The late Colin Flaherty spoke of small police departments in Northern California and other far west states that were manned with former NYPD, Chicago, Philly and Washington DC cops.
If I were a PO in any blue, anti-cop city, I’d be looking to get myself and my family out, ASAP.

"Defund the police" is leftist code for letting thieves get away with robbing businesses that are already struggling because of the pandemic, like what's happening in San Fransicko. The big corporate chains can afford to take the hit, but many small family-owned businesses cannot, even with insurance.
And this is the first I've heard of police arresting unvaccinated people solely for being unvaccinated, even in a deep blue state. I'd be interested in seeing your source for that, if I may.

“The NYPD union is in full support of the Democrat city hall that promoted riots within New York City. This story and photo is just one of hundreds.

A very good post.
These young cops were targeted because of what OTHER COPS have done for many, many years.
NYPD, and other political organizations, need to get rid of their own truly bad apples FIRST, then we will come back in full support. Way too many Crimninals In Blue.
Unil then, we gotta Lock & Load and protect ourselves.
You are a very stupid person. You are justifying a career criminal shooting two cops because of a carry permit scandal? Clown.
I do not believe More passed away. He was transferred to another hospital. I do not believe he will ever wake up again, but I don’t think he’s dead.
The family in the NYC restaurant who were asked to leave for not showing papers.
Yes, they were asked to leave for not following guidelines on private property.
But defective they were arrested for not presenting vaccination documents.
Mental gymnastics like this are how tyrants gain control.
One either looks at the event at face value, or analyzes it for underlying truths.
If one here on FR is to look at face value and not perform analysis then they would have no objection to our recent election fraud, twisting the January 6th peaceful demonstrations as an insurrection, or most of the assaults on freedom that we ensure.
I’ve stated before I am not against individual police officers, I am against the the law enforcement SOP that has created this deep divide in our country.
