The 1619 Project is based on an historical error. The first African slaves in America were not brought to Virginia in 1619. They were brought to South Carolina nearly a century earlier, in 1526. Then Spain tried to found a colony north of Florida, but a few weeks later the slaves revolted, killing many of the whites and forcing the rest to flee back to Santo Domingo, the Spanish port they came from in the Caribbean.
My only quibble with your reply is, 1619 isn’t based on history at all. :^)
