Reinstating the draft would be an epic mistake. If the ranks include those identified by the author as hating America, then it will cause inevitable tension with those who view service to our country as an honor and an obligation of citizenship. Imagine our young men and women having to rely upon those who not only do not want to wear the uniform of our country but hate what it represents. In the event of hostilities, will those forced to serve decide there is little reason to fight or to die for their fellow soldiers let alone their country? Perhaps we already are headed in this direction, given the “wokeness” emanating from the Pentagon, but a reinstated draft will only accelerate the process.
