Ugh - this is NOT the time to open that Pandora’s box.

Venezuela did the same thing and look at them.

We have people and institutions in place today who ignore or twist today's Constitution & laws. Why should anyone believe that amendments resulting from a COS will be any more adhered to than today's Constitution? What we need are institutions that will apply the Constitution & laws as intended. This will require legislators to impeach & remove those who do not defend & apply the Constitution. It will require AGs to prosecute & imprison traitors.

Bueller? Which 6 or 8 blue states will vote to allow this so red state things can be accomplished?

I think we can address legitimate concerns by the States agreeing to limit CoS authority to an up or down vote on the proposed amendments. IOWs the States set the agenda beforehand. I'd propose the following amendments:

1. Repeal the 16th amendment and replace the personal income tax with the NRST. Reiterate pre-16th understanding that the Feds shall impose NO direct tax on individuals. The policy must be to keep government at the State level wherever possible.

2. No federal welfare/assistance programs allowed (including agricultural subsidies and the like) except for block grants paid to the States. The feds of course could monitor administration, but again no direct relationship between the feds and beneficiaries of such programs.

3. End direct election of Senators and return to a Senate appointed but he State legislatures.

4. Nobody may vote in any federal election who has declared bankruptcy in the past 7 years, or is currently in jail, prison, probation, parole, or who has been convicted of a felony in the last 7 years preceding the election, or is receiving state assistance (welfare). We could expand this list.

5. All voting in all elections at the federal, state or local level, may only be by US citizens who present a proper, state-issued ID card. All voting must be in person, no exceptions.

6. The States may enforce federal immigration laws, and may deport illegals apprehended without federal consent (the feds abused this so long they need to be stripped of power).

7. The States may require a 2-year residency (now it's only 1 year) for new citizen arrivals to receive any benefit.

I think that this would fix a good deal

There’s a wide political spectrum in the U.S. It runs from constitutionalist on the right to socialist on thee left. Now what do you think would happen if representatives from both sides sat down to change the Constitution?

The usual Chicken Little stuff. This call negates the call if it goes outside the boundaries of the call. Since this part of the Constitution has not been used in over two Centuries it will be a HUGE news item. Hard to get away with violations of the terms when everyone is watching. The states still have to ratify anything just like amendments proposed by Congress. Why are not the Chicken Littles running around in terror over this similar power that Congress already has and has used?
