The South wanted the unethical unacceptable practice of owning other people. That’s not wanting a divorce - it’s wanting to keep a system of extreme abuse and exploitation going.

The two situations are not even close.
You are focused on WHY they wanted a divorce. That is a separate subject. That gets into whether they should have been granted one.
I’m just arguing that that is WHAT they wanted. And the north said no.
And yes, I think the north was correct. But at the end of the day it is that one side wanted out of the union and the other side said no, and they went to war over it. That’s all.
And to apply it to today, do we allow a divorce, or do we fight for the union?
