The Golden State Warriors tried to quickly distance themselves from tech billionaire Chamath Palihapitiya’s incendiary remarks about the Uyghur genocide, but the team has been slammed for a “cowardly” response that critics say shows their fear of upsetting the Chinese government.
But the team has since been called out for not being more forceful in denouncing Palihapitiya’s remarks. The U.S. government has declared that the Chinese government has committed genocide against the Uyghurs, a mostly Muslim minority group that is native to the northwest Xinjiang region, the Washington Post reported. Scholars estimate that more than 1 million Uyghurs have been detained in re-education camps, where they have reportedly been subject to rape, sterilizations and slave labor.
To critics, it appeared that the Warriors were trying to avoid controversy by not mentioning the name of the Uyghurs and by not explaining how exactly they disagree with what Palihapitiya said. But the controversy erupted anyway. Raymond Ridder, senior vice president of communications for the Warriors, said the team would have no further comment.

China’s 400 million basketball fans and billions of dollars in revenue generation unfortunately, are more important to the NBA than a few hundred thousand incarcerated Uighurs.
Chamath Palihapitiya is a classic liberal. They don’t care about anything beyond money and power. Any social cause they push is just an attempt to gain or solidify their hold on money and power.
Chamath Palihapitiya has been rich for too long, and forgot how much he’d annoy people if he was honest. But, he’s very rich, so this will all go away.
Bongino covered this story today.
Apparently, ESPN is not aware of it. /s
This is becoming truly absurd. I heard that Olympic sponsors were also planning to deemphasize their own products in ads and concentrate instead on the athletes. The only positive may be that more people get tuned into these CCP atrocities, even if they are (hopefully) not actually watching.
Except the guy’s remarks weren’t “incindiary”; he pretty much communicated the same things we all know:
Giving and Caring aren’t the same.
NOT giving doesn’t equate to not caring.
In his present universe, the Uighur situation isn’t on his slate of causes; that was his comment about them not being a priority to him. BUT — JUST LIKE THEY DID TO TRUMP — the puke media took this guy’s words, twisted them into something he DID NOT mean, and splashed THAT FAKE narrative all over.
And now — BECAUSE IT’S *NOT* TRUMP, but someone you feel OK hating on — YOU HAPLESS SAPS ARE SWALLOWING IT!
HOOK!
LINE!
AND SINKER!
I really don’t care how much money an individual has, it’s unrealistic to demand that they cough up a check every time they get one of those “won’t you please give” letters.
I get a hundred a year, from many, many different orgs.
I give to a few that I’ve chosen.
And I feel no guilt tossing the rest in the recycle bin.
I’m not going to play the role of some holier-than-thou hypocrite and demand this guy do any different. The plight of the Uighurs “isn’t a ppriority” for him — perfectly fine. DOES NOT mean he doesn’t care; it ONLY means it’s not an issue he’s focused on, and giving toward.
But, ya see, he’s one of those dirty, evil, vile, filthy rich people the Left LOVE to demonize, and he’s said words that were easily used as ammo in that vein.
So — here we go — haters gonna hate.
The Question is: “Are you one of ‘em?”
The Answer is: “By their fruits shall ye know them.”
“Say his name!”
Yes. Nobody cares.
The NBA has totally sold their souls to China in exchange for 30 pieces of silver.
“incarcerated Uighurs.“
And thousands of dead ones that the Chinese Communists have killed
Commies vs Muslim?
Are the Chinese predicted to enter Iraq, Afghanistan, or other African Muslim countries?
“Commies vs Muslim?“
Read up on what the Chinese are doing to the Uyghurs.
No human should be treated that way.
The Golden State Warriors should’ve just said...
“We do not support the statement Chamath Palihapitya made concerning some people.”
Any Christians detained in China?
Commies vs Muslim?“
“Read up on what the Chinese are doing to the Uyghurs.
No human should be treated that way.”
I asked a simple question get a GD Crusader for a f****** responder. I didn’t ask anything about whether they’re at war with the Muslims which I know they don’t particularly care for them, but I had no way insinuated anything beyond that a******
Probably didn’t know how to pronounce it. It’s not hard to pronounce but it is hard to figure out the pronunciation based on the spelling. Years ago, I was asked in our church to pray for unreached people groups and I was assigned the Uyghurs. Had to find someone who knew how to pronounce it and it took several people before I found someone who had once worked in a missionary agency.
They go after Christians, too.
Owned by the Chinese - speak as you are commanded 🤪
