The CDC report shows a peak of the 7 day moving average for daily new COVID cases on 13 January (796,965), and declines since then. All but a handful of individual States show their own peaks have occurred.
This peak is pretty consistent with what modelers projected (9-15 Jan), and similar to what has been seen elsewhere (London, Johannesburg). Wastewater analysis also seems consistent with the peak just passing.
Looks like the fat lady is preparing to sing, on the COVID thing.
Be ready. The next variant is right around the corner.
AnotherCon.
The numbers appear down in my north central Indiana county, but it may also be the long weekend and slow reporting.
Mind reader.
SOTU address (conveniently rescheduled for early March) will include a declaration of victory over COVID.
Just in time for Primary Season.
Howdy, neighbor
North Central Hoosier too
GMTA!!

In South Africa, they had 37,875 cases on Dec 12, 2021. Today, just 3,657. Compared to previous waves, fewer deaths.
Fauxi will say the CDC misspoke
Look for Slow Joe to be touting the number of “lives saved” by his quick and decisive actions at the SOTU
I’ve been stopping myself from getting excited but things look similar in Colorado. Waiting and watching for more confirmation but Colorado’s 7 day case average took off on 12/22 and went straight up until 1/15, when it peaked and then started dropping. That fits the often mentioned 3 week sharp rise pattern of Omicron. Very early but encouraging movement for the moment.
We could still see one more spike but I think we are close to a peak if not past it.
Sounds accurate, lol!
South Africa down to about a tenth of the peak, about a month after peak.
That is roughly the default expectation here in the USA (UK or Europe) as well.
Morale should pick up, as the declines become clear, and widely reported.
The Biden Administration ordered a billion more tests, which will probably largely go into landfills.

Across the board, all but a few States (Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Wisconsin) show peaks in the last week. A few more show signs, but not clear peaks (Arizona, Indiana, Tennessee and Texas).
And Omicron is now at 99.5% of COVID-19 cases (statistically 95% confident between 99.3% & 99.7%) nationally. I never thought I’d see Delta’s butt kicked so badly and so quickly.

Who's making money off that?
Lafayette here.
A lot of places, including most of Asia, still have to ride out their omicron waves. We (USA) are getting ours done relatively early. Western Europe seems to have been a little ahead of Germany and the East.
