A Republican candidate for Arizona governor dropped out of the race hours before former President Donald Trump was set to speak at a rally with her top rival.
Kimberly Yee released a statement Saturday saying she will instead run for reelection as state treasurer.
"I am withdrawing from the Governor's race to stand for re-election as Treasurer. There is additional work to be done as the Treasurer of Arizona. As I transition my campaign, I want to thank my supporters and invite them to join me in my re-election efforts for Arizona Treasurer," she said in a tweet. Yee did not endorse any other candidate for governor in her statement.
Yee, who is a former top member of the Arizona State Legislature, was competitive but lagging in the polls behind former television anchor Kari Lake, whom Trump has endorsed for governor.

Despite all the wishful thinking about Trump's "fading influence," the proof is in the pudding.
He wouldn’t endorse Yee because he’s a racist!/s
Yee was a good candidate because she had already won statewide.
The worthless attorney general of Arizona is still running. He was given absolute proof of vote integrity violations months ago and has done nothing. I have to admit when Soros picks his stooges they stay loyal to him.
Kari Lake comes off as pretty strong , capable and CONSERVATIVE!
I agree with you that he seems to be a do-nothing, but he’s running for the Senate.
Comes off, but she has no record of Conservatism in office. It’s deeply troubling Lake endorsed and supported both Lurch in 2004 and Zero in 2008. I hope President Trump’s endorsement is earned here, but he has made some bad endorsements or endorsed those who end up stabbing him in the back.
We’re not electing her supermodel of the year. She would’ve become the first Asian female Governor of any state had she been elected. She’s also been elected statewide, which neither Lake or Salmon can claim.
Eww.. (On an Asian scale of 1-10, I give her a 2..)
At least you appear to have a generous nature.
Blake Masters, who is also running for the Arizona Senate seat , is the real deal. There are a lot of contenders now who would usually not consider running. They do so now out of a sense of patriotic urge that they can no longer just leave it to those who naturaly thirst for office .The situation has become so dire they feel the need to do something themselves.
Well, she would bump up to a 4 on a USA scale ;^)
True, but I don’t know anything about her.. and I can’t say I trust elections recently, especially Arizona :(
I once worried about Trump because of his support for the State taking private property for private development. He obviously made up for that. Lake certainly talks a good talk, like she only wants the job because we need someone who fights the left rather than comprising with them. Somebody who has no desire to make politics a career.
“Itβs deeply troubling Lake endorsed and supported both Lurch in 2004 and Zero in 2008.”
I’ve worried about that, too. She was in the media and they all do that. I wonder if/when she’ll ever be asked that question in a debate or interview.
People DO change....especially as they age.
She won with a 9% margin over the Demonrat in 2018. Conversely, the horrid Katie Hobbs, the presumed Demonrat Gubernatorial nominee, won Sec of State in that same election by only 0.87%. Yee would have an easier time defeating Hobbs.
Unfortunately, with people like Lake, we won’t really know what they’ll do until they’re elected. Might be good, might be rotten.
Problem is that she went all over the map politically. She was a Republican prior to 2004 and then went Demonrat, and then back to GOP and became a “super Trumper” as soon as she decided to run for office. She wasn’t in college when she voted for Lurch and Zero, she was 35 and 39. These are legitimate red flags about Lake.
