Is it common for hunters to dress deer in the field? The ones I know take the deer to a business that does the cleaning for them.

No body ever dressed my deer or elk. To keep the meat good the body heat needs to be absent. What we called field dressing the animal. Heart and liver are generally taken. I butcher my own animals. Eagle lead poisoning from hunters left overs is ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ’ฉ. Heat spoils meat. Got to cool the carcass and take care to keep the flys off. If you donโ€™t want to eat it leave it alone. Wolves and coyotes excepted. IMFO

Yeah here in GA we run em all to processors.

Field dressing might make sense if you take a big buck out west. Ours here aren’t that big and you CAN get them on the 4 wheeler by yourself.
