I wish lead was poisonous to these pesky Canada geese!

We NEVER had these when I was a kid, teen, young adult, old adult, and now as a grumpy old coot these birds are EVERYWHERE!

In other news...

I'd like to thank the United States Government for protecting me and my kind.

You see, 40 years ago, my odds of making it out of the egg, alive, were very poor; about 80% of us died.

But a lady discovered our plight and wrote a book that addressed our problem,
and, in 1972, a law was amended protecting us even further. (http://www.fws.gov/midwest/eagle/protect/laws.html)

What I find strange is that the same government passed a law the very next year that allowed for killing
of unborn, and apparently unwanted, humans.  Little ones still nestled safely in their Mother's womb.
Around 25% of them are dying before birth - on average nearly 3,000 - every day of the year.

I've heard that by now, somewhere over 62 MILLION of them have perished.
Wouldn't that kind of mess up the humans plans for growth, and welfare, and
retirement?

Strange birds; these Homo Sapiens.  Perhaps they'll come to their senses
before they are ALL dead!

And although anecdotal and not a focal species I study, I have observed on numerous occasions Bald Eagles eating carrion when other food sources such as salmon are available. Bald Eagles are opportunistic apex predators and their food sources are depending on a number of factors such as weather, availability and time of year.

Now you are in a corner and need to lie.

I did not say bald eagles do not eat carrion. I said that they prefer live food.

You also did not acknowledge the FACT that since California banned lead ammunition, they are still finding similar number of birds dead, indicating they went after the wrong source of lead.

Why did they go after ammunition? Because of a built-in bias against firearms and hunters.

But at least hunters hit their target while scientists keep missing the source.

Good grief. I never claimed you did. What I commented on is food choices for Bald Eagles are driven by a number of factors.

And regarding lead ammunition and bird mortalities, I’d need to read some current and past research before acknowledging what you claim as fact is indeed as such.

As far as a built in bias, I’m fairly good at detecting when normative science is in use.

...they are still finding similar number of birds dead,...

Not to worry; as scientists are working at re-discovering the 'immortal bird gene'.
