Republicans Katie Britt and Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama are distancing themselves from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell after McConnell suggested there were no problems with the 2020 election. Britt and Brooks are competing, along with “Black Hawn Down” veteran Mike Durant, for the U.S. Senate seat that retiring Sen. Richard Shelby will leave open later this year.
After South Dakota Republican Sen. Mike Rounds on Sunday dismissed election complaints and claimed the 2020 election “was fair, as fair as we have seen,” McConnell backed Rounds’ comments on Tuesday, telling CNN, “I think Sen. Rounds told the truth about what happened in the 2020 election. … And I agree with him.” Republican Sen. Mitt Romney piped in on Monday to comment that “Mike Rounds speaks truth knowing that our republic depends on it.”
But candidates in the U.S. Senate race in Alabama struck a different tone, which may be more in touch with their voters on election integrity concerns than the GOP Old Guard in Washington is.
“President Trump is right about the 2020 election. Mitch McConnell is wrong,” Brooks told The Federalist when asked if he agreed with McConnell’s assessment of the 2020 presidential election.
“That’s why I stood with Donald Trump when it mattered most, between November 3rd and January 6th, while McConnell and the Washington establishment were abandoning him — and I’m still standing with him,” Brooks continued. “McConnell’s refusal to say what grassroots conservatives across America know and speak the truth about 2020, coupled with his being the most unpopular elected official in Washington, combine to persuade me that Republicans must find a better Senate GOP leader.”
Britt also challenged establishment Republicans’ assumption that the 2020 election was problem-free. “Without a doubt, Katie believes election fraud occurred,”

I grew up in GA but moved away in 1980 so I don’t know the local Alabama politics anymore. Being late in isn’t what I was asking. Who is the better candidate and is this a primary or one of those pick the top two for a runoff type elections?
I’m backing Mo Brooks, simply because I don’t know enough about Mike. Mo seems to be a fighter and not someone who just goes along to get along. Britt is a Shelby aid who also has no track record.
Richard Shelby has done more damage to conservatives over the years than most rats. No on any of his people.
Good point. I think Durant is a military contractor.
He’s got a business in Alabama, and will make big $$$$$ when R’s re-take the House, Senate, and Presidency. I hope he drops out and gives his support to Mo, but if he gives it to Britt you’ll know he is a RINO.
Durant is a vote for Collins, Romney.
I believe he is a make believe conservative whose mission is to pull votes away from Brooks.

Here are a couple of links:

This now is second hand. Before I retired, I worked very closely with a number of Army Special Forces aviators who knew Durant. Their assessment was not positive.
Thanks for the references…

You’re welcome. There’s a ton of money behind Durant. He’s running as a conservative but it would appear he’s a Mitt Romney conservative.
She is in the third spot in the polls right now. Moe is first. There will be a runoff.
Thanks for the heads up!
