of course the talks collapsed. The Russians were serious in their demands. Their actual red line has been crossed and they feel an existential NATO threat and belligerence towards them.
They made specific terms and set a one month deadline.
DC started their usual BS of “negotiation” technique. Announce a flat refusal of their demands, but send some DC swamp woman who was supposed to prattle on and on, employ a huge array of diplomats from half of NATO, get a huge budget, and “talk” as the DC agenda proceeds without change.
Offer them some meaningless agreement etc.
DC negotiations are basically, “we aren’t changing a single thing, but we can talk you into liking it”.
Russia is tired of a decade plus of insults, and now of the NATO road show moving right up to their borders. Watch for missile deployments to Cuba and Kaliningrad and every location where they can use INF nukes to menace the EU.
In this case I think they were serious, DC was business as usual, and they have caused more of their same BS. Good old State and DOD doing the neocon thing.

Where's the logic in that? We have no forces mobilized to fight Russia. Russia has the edge in nuclear weaponry due to their constant cheating on their technology. Russia has the massive army mobilized for an imminent invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine will be stomped on and Russia will be directly up to the Polish border, whom Russia ALSO occasionally threatens with annihilation, and who is not yet ready to defend herself either.
So what exactly would be the purpose of bombing a bunch of stupid, drunk Russian conscripts--who are half the time raping each other due to the epidemic of man on man rape in the Russian army, which will do nothing but galvanize these Orcs and Goblins to charge into Ukraine and start raping the Ukrainians instead? This would be a loss to the United States and Europe, not a "win."
And if the 'Deep State' wanted to lose to help Russia, there are better ways they could lose than randomly bombing worthless Russians.
The first casualty of (provocations leading to) war is the truth. I'll be 2 or 3 years before we untangle the motives and lies, if ever.
And guaranteed, if the US was contemplating that, US intelligence (proaganda) agencies would plant news stories EXACTLY like the one we read here.
