Radio station KRLA, blasting Southern California with Top 40 music at 1110 kilocycles from its 50,000-watt transmitter located just outside Whittier, had its own version of "New York's a Lonely Town," which was the only one you could hear on that station. (And no, this is not the conservative talk station with the same call letters heard today at 870 kcs.)

New York's a Lonely Town (KRLA Version)--The Trade Winds (1965)

Spirit in the Sky

I preferred Greenbaum's follow up, "Canned Ham", which made the Hot 100, but not the Top 40.

That is a good one, but I believe Let The Little Girl Dance was also very good

"I'm Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves Also, Melt with You by Modern English "

Great combo! I picked up both LPs just for those songs. Walking on Sunshine is one of my all time top ten songs that are guaranteed to make you happy. You can't listen to that song and not smile. Melt with you was not very well known at the time. You had to be a bit of music nut to know the song but it later became a classic that literally everyone knows today.

This one was huge at the time, and still sounds great:

Sukiyaki - Kyu Sakamoto,

For those who may be interested, here is an English version of the song: Sukiyaki - English Version (my first lonely night without you)

This one got a lot of air play on local radio stations. "Dor" was the poet Rod McKuen.

"“Please Come to Boston” Dave Loggins “Chevy Van” Sammy Johns “Lake Shore Drive” Aliotta, Haynes,Jeremiah “Shanty” Do Not Sell “One Toke Over the Line” Brewer and Shipley"

Another great line up. Two of these are KSHE Classics "Lake Shore Drive" and "One Toke over the Line"

KSHE 95 was a famous Rock Station out of the St. Louis area. This station literally made many songs famous that otherwise were unknown and likely would have remained that way. I still have some of my KSHE stuff but not my coveted black satin station jacket.
