Did Novak LIE? Huge twist as Border Force investigate bombshell claims the star made a 'false declaration'
Daily Mail (Australia/UK) ^ | 11th January 2022

The Australian Border Force are investigating whether Novak Djokovic lied on his entry form.

It appears he made a false declaration claiming he had not travelled in the 14 days leading up to his arrival in Melbourne, the Herald Sun reports.

All travellers arriving in Australia are asked if they have 'travelled or will travel in the 14 days prior to your flight to Australia'.

They are also warned: 'Giving false or misleading information is a serious offence. You may also be liable to a civil penalty for giving false or misleading information.'

Djokovic ticked 'No' in response to the question, however that appears to be in direct conflict with the timeline of his recent movements.

An appropriate comparison since most of what you believe about Australia is probably fiction created by communists.

*******************************

Well it sounds like you are giving us a first-hand account of what Australia is actually like right now and you sound like one big fat cuck who will never be one-tenth of the man that Novak is.

And learn to have your own thoughts instead of stealing them from the article. You right that it’s a serious offense. The idiot that wrote the article says that it’s a serious offence and and then says there could be a fine. Well if it’s only a finable offense then it’s not that serious.

As with most issue such as this one, we may never hear all the facts. To me it looks like the government is finding an excuse for locking up someone traveling to a country. Normally entry is refused and the person leaves the country.

Well except for our Southern Boarder where there is a whole lot of lying going on both sides, the illegals and the Libs....

FYI - Tennis star Novak Djokovic wins court battle to stay in Australia – for now

Well it sounds like you are giving us a first-hand account of what Australia is actually like right now and you sound like one big fat cuck who will never be one-tenth of the man that Novak is.

Yes. He's good at tennis. All I've done with my life is fight in a war and serve in my country's defence force for two decades. I'll put my manhood up against his any day, even if he would have been beaten me in straight sets in the days when I actually did play tennis.

But I'd happily give you a first hand account of what Australia is like if I thought you'd be capable of paying attention to facts, rather that the crap you've been spoonfeed by Communist China, intent on splitting America from one of its only real allies.

| And learn to have your own thoughts instead of stealing them from the article. You right that it’s a serious offense. The idiot that wrote the article says that it’s a serious offence and and then says there could be a fine. Well if it’s only a finable offense then it’s not that serious.

It's actually defined as a serious offence and that is the terminology the form Djokovic signed uses to describe it - but don't let the facts get in the way of your ignorance. I'm also fairly sure it does carry a potential prison term, but I would have to check that - while I'm trained in constitutional law, my criminal law knowledge is much less detailed.

Australia secures its borders. If America can’t or won’t do that (and frankly, I think that’s rather an exaggeration, but it’s you saying it, not me), it’s certainly no good reason for us not to. It says something awful about America if that is the case. You’re no longer a sovereign nation if your borders aren’t borders.

You are a legalistic douche.

Australia voluntarily hosts the Australian Open and Novak is the number 1 tennis player on the world and Australia needs him more than he needs them. If Novak is not allowed to play due to the impulsive totalitarianism of the Australian government then whoever wins the open will not be considered the legitimate winner and it will tarnish the tournament.

But it’s not a serious offense for them to lie to the people. Funny how that works.

Tennis star Novak Djokovic wins court battle to stay in Australia – for now

That's from yesterday - and if you check, you'll find I was posting all through that period.

This information that he may have lied - and that's all I'll say - he might have an explanation - is new.

Is the government looking for an excuse to deport him. They don't need one. Unfortunately, it would be massively popular here (let me be clear - I want Djokovic to be allowed to stay, I just want it to happen in a way that doesn't cause constitutional issues here, and the court ruling is a problem in that regard).

If he did lie, while that is a potentially serious offence, it would normally only lead to a fine and the person would still be allowed in, in the circumstances described (a small amount of travel within Europe). But I really dislike saying it's no big deal. I believe it is. Securing Australia's borders is a major issue in my view.

Laws matter. So does the security of my nation's borders. I am quite amazed to see supposed conservatives disagreeing with either of those things.

If Novak is not allowed to play due to the impulsive totalitarianism of the Australian government then whoever wins the open will not be considered the legitimate winner and it will tarnish the tournament.

A tennis tournament is of miniscule importance compared to the sovereignty and security of my country. Again, I'm surprised any conservative might feel otherwise.

Most of us do. And we're kind of wondering why Americans are putting up with the fact that they've had people held in solitary confinement for a year now because they dared to protest what they believed was a fraudulent election.

There have been some issues in parts of Australia but America's got plenty of its own and a lot of them seem far worse to me than what's happened in Australia.

That is most moronic statement I've read on Freerepublic and I've read some doozies.

What Djokovic has done is create a court case that has transferred responsibity for Australian security from the conservative federal government to the most hard left, authoritarian state government in Australia. The state government, incidentally, that was most responsible for all the human rights violations that have been faced in Australia over the last two years.

I don't expect Americans to understand how Australia's constitution works. But I do think that when people don't, they should avoid spouting such idiotic drivel as your statement above.

Exactly this!! Also, if Novak isn't allowed to play, viewership will be way down. Money will not be flowing like it would've been.

John Alexander is from the same party as the Prime Minister and the Immigration Minister:

11 Jan: Daily Mail UK: Australian Open is put on RED ALERT for violence in the stands if Novak Djokovic plays - amid calls for country to be STRIPPED of the tournament over its treatment of the tennis superstar
Immigration minister could use powers to cancel his visa again and deport him
Liberal MP slammed government’s consideration of cancelling Djokovic’s visa
John Alexander said minister’s discretionary power is not for ‘political problems’
He fears the Melbourne grand slam will be ‘diminished’ if Djokovic is deported
Tennis fans calling for Australia to be stripped of the grand slam over the saga
By KYLIE STEVENS and PADRAIG COLLINS
US star Tennys Sandgren and several tennis fans have called for Australia to be stripped of the tournament - as Djokovic was finally released from immigration detention following a court ruling on Monday...

Immigration Minister Alex Hawke has refused to rule out using his personal powers to cancel Djokovic’s visa yet again and boot him out of the country - sparking a furious response from one-time tennis star and MP colleague John Alexander, who warned about the future of the Open.
The former Australian and Davis Cup champion unleashed on his own government in a fiery Facebook tirade on Monday night, prompting a divided reaction online.

Mr Alexander leapt to the defence of Djokovic and argued the nine-time Australian Open champion complied with the health entry requirements and didn’t appear to be an unreasonable health risk to Australia.
The Liberal MP and former world No. 8 said retaining the Australian Open as a grand slam was in the nation’s interest before taking a swipe at the minister who may potentially exercise his personal powers to deport as early as Tuesday morning.

He said Mr Hawke’s discretionary powers to deport is meant for criminals and contagious people, ***not ‘political problems’.

‘It would appear Covid-negative Novak has complied with all health entry requirements, the judge asking: “What more could this man have done?,’ Mr Alexander wrote.
‘Based on this, Novak does not seem to present an unreasonable health risk to Australia.
‘So what would be the ‘public interest’ the Minister could potentially use to exercise his personal powers to deport our defending Australian Open tennis champion?

‘Retaining the Australian Open as a grand slam event, I would argue is in our national interest.
‘The minister’s ‘personal powers to cancel visas’ are designed to prevent criminals otherwise walking our streets, or to prevent a contagious person otherwise walking our streets; they’re not designed to assist in dealing with a potential political problem of the day.’...

Mr Alexander doubled down on his comments on Tuesday morning, telling ABC Radio breakfast host Hamish MacDonald it would be a mistake to deport Djokovic.
‘There seems no reason to do so. The judge has been abundantly clear in his finding and his comments around the findings,’ he said.
‘It was a pretty emphatic decision.’

Mr Alexander admitted he hadn’t expressed his concerns to the minister.
‘I’ve got no need, I’m free to do whatever I want really,’ he said.
‘I’ve had a long history in tennis and I understand the origins of grand slam events, which Australia is hugely invested in.’

While he doesn’t believe Australia will lose its grand slam if Djokovic is deported, he warned the event will be ‘diminished.’
‘If the Australian Open is making conditions that people seem to meet and aren’t allowed to come, that would not help our status,’ Mr Alexander said.

‘We have previously been the poor cousin of the four events but with the establishment of Melbourne Park, it’s significantly the best venue of the grand slams.’
‘We’ve got a lot going for us but we need to tread carefully and we need to be showing that people will be allowed in the country if they meet the criteria.’...

Tennis fans are now calling for Australia to be stripped of its long-standing grand slam status unless Djokovic is allowed to play.
‘Japan is way better at this than Australia. Cancel the Australian Open and give it too Japan. Australia is too backward to hold a global sports event,’ one Canadian tweeted.

US celebrity Trainer Justin Allen added: If the Australian government exercise executive powers and decide to deport Novak Djokovic anyway- despite its own court ruling today- the Australian Open should be stripped of its grand slam status and become a non-ranking event.

2020 Australian Open quarter finalist Tennys Sandgren first sparked the calls when Djokovic’s visa was originall cancelled last Thursday.
‘Just to be crystal clear here 2 separate medical boards approved his exemption And politicians are stopping it, Australia doesn’t deserve to host a grand slam,’ he tweeted...

***It was speculated Mr Hawke had just four hours to make such a decision, but it later emerged the four hour window is only relevant if the government had decided to bring in Djokovic for further questioning, which has not happened.
However, there is no time limit on the minister’s power to cancel the visa and can be done whenever he decides there is enough evidence that there is a ground to do so and if it’s in the public interest...

At least Rafael Nadal, who had previously criticised Djokovic, seemed satisfied about his participation. ‘It seems perfect to me, totally correct,’ said Nadal. ‘Whether or not you agree with some of the things regarding Djokovic, justice has spoken and has said that he has the right to play in the Australian Open, and that’s really the fairest way.’
