Ditto. Did you ever imagine that we’d actually find ourselves with the diabolical, anti-Christian pope pluck right out of the most fevered imagination of the most fundy-fundamentalist Christian? I certainly didn’t, but here we are...

I could never, ever have imagined this.
Even when I look through our history at some of the corrupt and immoral popes we’ve had, there have been very, very few who have wandered from or tried to tamper with doctrine. They just wanted to spend a lot of money and have a good time, and they knew when to keep their mouths shut.
But of course those were the days when laypeople were out brawling in the streets over theological matters. The problem now is that few people know enough to even get mildly upset.
Plus these bad popes may actually have believed the religion (which I don’t think he does) and never actually contradicted it but planned on a deathbed repentance - just as their enemies poisoned them, LOL. Not legit, but I think that was always at the back of their minds.
Bergoglio isn’t worried because he doesn’t accept the Faith in the first place.
