BENGALURU, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Indian drugmaker Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd (REDY.NS) will launch its generic version of Merck's (MRK.N) antiviral COVID-19 pill, molnupiravir, and price it at 35 rupees ($0.4693) per capsule, a company spokesperson said on Tuesday.
The overall cost for a patient treated with a 5-day course of 40 capsules of the generic drug, to be sold under brand name 'Molflu', will come up to 1,400 rupees ($18.77). In comparison, the treatment with Merck's pill in the United States costs $700.

The Merck drug is not even available in the US yet, is it?
Molflu sounds like “More Flu”.
Bttt
please keep your day job. That was not all that funny.
How will that affect Americans though?
Cue CornPop and Congress to list this as a as Schedule 1 drug and ban it’s importation into the US.
I thought it was. And it does!
“Merck is not going to be happy about this.”
Merck is partnering with Indian companies to make it to distribute in low and middle income countries.
“Dr Reddy’s to launch generic COVID-19 Merck drug at about 50 cents a pill”
A good price for the human form of Ivermectin.
OK then quit your job and become a stand-up LOL
All sorts of drugs can come into the USA via mail from foreign countries if you know someone there. Almost every drug sold in USA is cheaper in low and middle income countries.
Merrick start spreading the news that the pill doesn’t work, but they have something else.
Yeah. Because we pay for it.
Merck has signed off for third world nations to produce as much as they want without fees. The caveat is that they cannot sell them in wealthy countries, where Merck will charge hundreds of dollars per treatment.
Of course the Merck drug isn’t very effective. The Pfizer drug on the other hand, Paxlovid, is very effective but you (your doctor/pharmacist) MUST read the warnings about dangerous drug interactions. Most of them you can just stop taking the drug while you take Paxlovid, but a few you can’t take Paxlovid at all.

your post is funny!
Like that will ever see the light of day.
Why would they make a generic of the Merck drug? They just restricted the drug due to safety concerns.

I thought it was funny.
I thought India banned Molnupiravir due to safety concerns. See here:
*India Won’t Add Merck’s COVID-19 Pill to National Treatment Protocol, Citing Safety Concerns*
India’s top health research body announced on Wednesday that it won’t be adding Merck’s COVID-19 antiviral pill molnupiravir to its national treatment protocol, citing concerns over its safety.
The state-run Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said it had become aware of “major safety concerns” that prompted the decision, despite India’s drug regulator in December approving the drug for emergency use.
It comes after France in December also canceled its order for the drug, developed by Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics, following disappointing trial data suggesting its drug was markedly less effective than previously thought.
Molnupiravir has major safety concerns including teratogenicity, mutagenicity, muscle and bone damage. If this drug is given, contraception must be done for three months as the child may have problems,” ICMR Director-General Balram Bhargava told local media on Wednesday.
So, what makes Reddy think that a Molnupiravir clone will sell in his country?
