Boston marathon bomber Dzhokar Tsarnaev was ordered by a federal court to turn over the $1,400 in coronavirus relief funds he received, along with other money sent to him, to his victims as restitution.

But so far, he has paid only $2,203, court documents reveal. Tsarnaev has $3,885.06 in his inmate account, funds that came from the COVID-19 relief check he received on June 22, 2021, as well as deposits from individuals and groups, including the Officer of Federal Defenders in New York.
Federal prosecutors say Tsarnaev has splurged on “gifts,” “support,” and “books” to his siblings — money that was supposed to be used to pay restitution.

Am I the only one wondering why we’re paying INMATES for COVID relief?
On one hand I think it’s terrible. On the other hand, you almost never ear the government giving out such a low amount. I guess we should be thankful he wasn’t getting $100k or more.
They have commissary accounts... like when you go to summer camp and your parents put some money you can spend in the “Canteen” for you. They can only use it to buy what the prison commissary sells, which is usually food, books, toiletries, etc.
Well, those inmates couldn’t go to their 25 cent/hour job during the lockdown, so obviously they were hit pretty hard.
Oh c’mon man…he spent the money on pressure cookers to cook carrots in his cell…
