Why More Young People Favor Socialism and What We Should Do: Mary Eberstadt

A growing number of young people now favor socialism over capitalism. According to author Mary Eberstadt, that’s because these young people have been deliberately miseducated, and they should learn more about the history and truth.

“Partly because they have been deliberately miseducated about their country’s past,” Eberstadt said in an interview with NTD’s “Capitol Report” broadcast Wednesday.

Eberstadt is a Senior Research Fellow at the Faith & Reason Institute. She is an essayist, novelist, and author of several books. She was a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution from 2002–2013 and was a speechwriter for Secretary of State George Schultz between 1985 and 1987.

Eberstadt said that it’s now been generations that a certain kind of anti-Americanism has been dominant, especially on university and college campuses.

What should we do?

Radical Federalism, dismantle Fed.gov, and to return to the Constitution as it was written and intended.

Does Massachusetts want socialism? Fine - let them pay for it themselves, but NOT with massive debt from Fed.gov, without QE or printed, fiat, manipulated money, courtesy of the Federal Reserve.

Its important to realize that Biden and is acolytes did not seize power in a political or cultural vacuum. A significant percentage of the population has embraced the epicurean, neo pagan, hedonistic decadence that makes vile socialism attractive.

Here’s what should be done ASAP. I offered this strategy to a client who is a college professor and a hard core conservative and deals with wannabe socialists every day in class.

I told her to have all the students in her class who support socialism raise their had then write down the names. Then tell those students who support socialism anywhere from a full point (1.0) to half a point (.5) would be taken from their grade point average and given to a student with a lesser GPA.

Example- it you have a 4.0, one point would be subtracted from your GPA and given to a student who has a 2.0. This way you both end up with a 3.0 GPA.

Force them to practice what they preach NOW!

...these young people have been deliberately miseducated...

I was talking with my 16-year old granddaughter about the disappearance of the dinosaurs.

She said: "Yes, my teacher said it was global warming that killed them."

I asked her to explain and she said her teacher said that melting ice release CO2 into the atmosphere and that's what killed them.

I asked: "What did he say about the theory of an asteroid that collided with the earth with particles that blotted out the sun, making a Nuclear Winter that eventually killing the dinosaurs?"

Her: "He didn't mention that because it was global warming."

Me: "If that's true, why did all the plants dies, too. They thrive on CO2?"

Her: "I don't know."

Me: "Ask your teacher about the thin layer of Iridium, a mineral found in asteroids, that coated the earth about 67 million years ago...about the same time the dinosaurs disappeared."

Her: "I'll ask him, but when you disagree with him, he gets mad."

Good Lord! Scientific education without allowing discourse?

Young people today are screwed.

Record national debt, sky high school cost, houses out of reach for majority, new car prices going for what a decent house cost not that long ago, employers cuttings back on benefits- no more pensions, employers highering them as 1099 sub contractors so they do not have any benefits but still expect to work for the co for 40 hours a week.

Indian motorcycles are now renting motorcycles because less people can afford them. The Indian dealer near me said wages average person earns can no longer buy a decent motorcycle.

The gravy train in this country is over unless you are a federal or state employee who has an protected job for life, can’t be fired and can retire at age 53 with full benefits and pension.

No wonder they want socialism.

Good points. Socialism/communism will always be popular to those who think they can get something for nothing.

Are those polls really accurate? As opposed to disproportionately vocal and visible minorities?

not defending the millennials, but I think a fair number of the Bernie bros just naively view socialism as a means to rectify the symptoms of an increasingly un-free constitutional republic:
sky-high inflation, sky-high housing prices that very few young people can afford, sky-high higher education costs.
Many of the millennials actually despise corporatism and crony-capitalism (as we do), but they suffer from cognitive dissonance and can't pinpoint a cause and effect relationship.
That's their own fault, yes, but socialism's appeal to them is more than just 'free stuff for nothing'.

What should we do?

A good start is removing the debt they're saddled with that they didn't accrue. It's not good debt as in "previous generations built this for your benefit", it's "previous grifters stole from future taxpayers and put this in place to constrict your life."

The unconstitutional income tax needs to be removed. Defund Fedzilla.

“entropy, is that you?”

Was entropy pro socialsim? Well I am not. My wife and I own 3 companies and 100% capitalist.

I was pointing out why young people are favoring socialism today. They do not have the gravy train we grew up with.

They live in a world of have and have nots and offshoring/globalism and minimal job protections.

About 45% of this country is doing well the other 50-55% are going paycheck to paycheck.

My first job as a field rep for an insurance company in 1985 was 28k per year plus bonusus and commissions. Full benefit package including a defined pension plan that I paid zero towards. They also gave me a brand new car every 6-8 months(Ford taurus) and they paid 100% of the gas and maintenace/insurance. I used it as my personal vehicle and paid zero for gas etc.

Not a single one of my field reps today have a company car and their benefit package sucks to what I had an their production requirements are insane and nearly impossbile to meet.

We are on a race to the bottom and until conservatives and companies figure this out they will lose to gov’t perks and bennies every time.

Yes, it is better in some ways./s You don’t need to think for yourselves, no envy, since everyone is equally miserable and you don’t need to figure out which party is right since you only have one party. No deciding what brand of food you want to buy since you only have one brand at most. In other words NO DECISIONS. NO THINKING! Thinking is hard.

They don’t really favor socialism. The choice would require intellectual engagement, which requires an intellectual ability most can’t command. They just think is sounds cool and intellectual to say yes.
