You beat me to it. Cause of death is not reported in the linked story.
I wonder how much of the increase is related to the legalization/decriminalization of drug use?
How much is fentanyl and opioids?
Murder? Democrat America is setting modern era records.
Suicide?
Changing demographics? We’d need to see data on ethnicity and immigration status.
It’s been a highly stressful couple of years and that’s not going to change any time soon. Sorting out stress-related deaths gets tricky fast.
Speaking of cause of death, get this, from June...
https://www.fema.gov/press-release/20210629/fema-amends-covid-19-funeral-assistance-policy
“This policy change was made after consulting with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention officials and other health experts. The new policy provides applicants, as well as medical authorities, coroners and jurisdictions, flexibility to attribute a death to COVID-19 without amending the death certificate. The change also provides flexibility with documentation for the period before the CDC-published and implemented COVID-19 death certificate guidance in the spring of 2020.”

...and or heart attacks, strokes, neurological auto immune issues?
I really doubt that many of the approx. 900 people murdered in Chicago last year were employees of companies insured through OneAmerica.
Regards,
High crime rates cause stress.
Every Republican wonders if the FBI (the thug arm of the democrat party) is gunning for them for daring to have an R by their name and having voted for Trump.
I’m watching Chuck Todd and he’s almost hysterical in his abject fear and hatred of conservatives. He’s acting like Trump is still sitting in the White House - refusing to leave. In fact, Trump left the White House on the exact day he was suppose to leave. And while many of us have doubts about the honesty of Democrats - the only tool our side has used via the last election has been the American legal system.
That’s stressful. And could contribute to the uptick in deaths.
How much is fentanyl and opioids?
Two contradictory statements.
I seem to recall that in recent years, the death rate in America is somewhat under 1% of the population - between 2.6 and 2.8 million people a year (out of 330 million). A 40% increase over an entire year would be more than a million extra deaths. That couldn’t be explained by more auto accidents or murders, or even fentanyl deaths, which have been rising for years. Something else is afoot.
