Just read a piece that reviewed over 500K cases of Omicron vs 500K cases of Delta in UK. Looks like Omicron is about 1/3 as likely to result in hospitalization. Vaxed are only about half as likely to be hospitalized vs (protection against hospitalization has dropped to 50%). It looks like Omicron doesn’t attack the lungs, so hospitalizations are shorter, less serious, and not resulting in ICU admission. All good signs, and this wave could prevent a more serious variant from getting a foothold in the future.
“Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands peaked a few weeks ago.”
Looks like the UK has peaked also - down about 10% over the last week.
We should not have to wait very long for our peak in the USA (2nd week in Jan?), although some regions will be a bit earlier, and others later.
Thats:
...hospitalized vs UNVAXED (protection against hospitalization has dropped to 50%)....
Fear blovid,we have to fear blovid!
BRING ON THE HERD!
I’m starting to think even Chomo Joe didn’t think he would win. And I don’t think the democrats could have imagined just how easy it was to install him. They planned to just keep blaming this all on Trump but they ‘won’ and now the entire system shows how corrupt and useless it all is.
“this wave could prevent a more serious variant from getting a foothold in the future.”
One of the advantages of vaccinations, is that they can be targeted to protect the most vulnerable.
One of the advantages of natural infection for herd immunity, is that it preferentially targets those high contact people, who play a more important role in spreading the disease - more effectively impeding future spread. It kind of cuts out its own fire breaks in the population, not all of which might have been anticipated by bureaucrats trying to decide who goes first. It also is just ruthlessly mandatory, not giving anyone an opt out.
An early, small lab study out of South Africa indicates that Omicron does impart a significant degree of Cross-immunity to other strains of COVID. Blood of those previously infected with Omicron mustered four times the antibody response to Delta, than that of the uninfected.
The local paper here LOVES the daily death count. And they use to LOVE reporting the “vaccination” status of the doomed individual. (Usually very elderly). But huh... They aren’t reporting the vaccination status anymore. I wonder why?
How often has is occurred or what is the real likelihood that a subsequent variant will be more serious than the previous one?
I can’t actually remember believing anything the media said. It’s a shame, as there may come a time when the wolf is really there, and we need to prepare. As for now, they’ve cried wolf for so long it sounds like the crickets on a summer’s night.
Omicron may turn out to be a gift. A throwback mutation of the virtually extinct Alpha variant, that evades immunity but is less virulent.

( 5,398,446 “global deaths” from COVID / 7,916,000,020 population ) x 100 = 0.0682 %
Worldometer
( 5,415,197 “global deaths” from COVID / 7,916,000,020 global population ) x 100 = 0.0684 % Maybe there has been more good news all along, unreported.
How fatal is it?
How fatal is a cold?
The more tests you perform, the more false-positives you get.
Who knew?
“Omicron may turn out to be a gift.”
It will shore up herd immunity to some strong degree - every infection or vaccination does that somewhat.
It will add some immune response to the virus’ shell (Nucleotide), in addition to just the spike protein (or fragments of the spike protein) that vaccines target. It will instill heightened immune reaction in the nasal mucosa, which the vaccines fail to stimulate. It will spread into many cracks in the population that have escaped infection so far, depleting availability of naïve hosts for future infections. It will raise the percentage of the population with immunity, to a very high level, well beyond the herd immunity threshold of most viruses.
It is going to be a very a tough act, for any future strain to follow.
I heard someone say it may literally be a gift, in other words designed to defeat delta and any other variant that pokes its head up.
The problem will only come with a completely different type of virus, where there is no similarity to the present ones.
Can’t find either of those quotes, but I did hear them.
Delta was actually worse than previous variants. The idea that viruses mutate to a less deadly form is overstated. Much of the "mutation" is in the population. First, killing off the most vulnerable, whether it is a genetic vulnerability, age, weakness, etc plays a significant role, while imparting natural immunity on survivors. Populations also change their behavior to avoid illness. The virus actually mutating to be less deadly would require some evolutionary pressure, and I doubt a 1% mortality rate would provide such a pressure. Plenty of viruses have existed for millennia without mutating to a less deadly form. Smallpox, Lassa Virus, measles, Dengue Virus, etc. Add in that Omicron did not a mutate from the current dominant variant, Delta. It came from the nearly extinct Alpha.
We need a National mandate banning local government mandates. I can dream, can’t I?
