The Biden administration announced a plan last week to purchase 500 million at-home rapid tests for COVID-19 and distribute them for free, but health experts say the number is far below what is needed to address the omicron surge and should have been distributed weeks ago.

Stanford University professor of medicine Dr. Jay Bhattacharya called the Biden administration’s timing "unfortunate," saying it should have anticipated the "entirely predictable winter wave."
"I think it would have been useful for protecting the vulnerable by giving people a tool to understand if they’re positive and thus pose some risk to older people in their life, especially in times of high community transmission," Bhattacharya told Fox News.
Vanity Fair reported last week that the Biden administration rejected a more robust proposal in October to ramp up testing ahead of Thanksgiving and Christmas

Bhattacharya said the 500 million figure is still far too low even if confined to America’s working population.
"I think the more appropriate use of (tests) is you check before you go visit grandma, you check before you go to a big party," Bhattacharya said. "It’s harder to gauge exactly how many but, you know, easily I can imagine each 200 million needing at least one test a week."
At a Wednesday press conference, White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Jeffrey Zients said the first shipment of rapid tests won’t go out for days, if not weeks.

By the time these tests are distributed, we will be past the Omicron surge and mostly out of the seasonal flu season.
Tests do nothing. They are a political distraction.

The tests don’t even work, the CDC has admitted as much. It’s all theater and half this country think it’s real.
Good point. A test that can’t tell the difference between the virus it’s supposed to detect and the flu and a shot that’s never been effective and was never designed to fight the new strain of virus now active.......where do I sign up for that?

Just let Covid run it’s course as any virus does, build herd immunity, and get on with life. Minnesota’s Covid statistics are 1,000,000 cases and 10,000 deaths which is a 1% death rate. Of the 10,000 they don’t tell you how many died ‘with’ Covid or ‘of’ Covid.

In the first presidential debate, Joe Biden was coached to regurgitate the lie that Trump had no plan for the COVID response. Biden alone had a plan......until he gave up and said loudly, "there is no federal solution to Covid."

I think only records Covid is currently smashing are of a ridiculously stupid number of people getting tested for no reason and thus feeding the GD beast. AND number of vaccinated AND boosted still getting sick- I talk to them every day and they can’t understand how they got sick- yet can’t wait to go get the next one. There has to be crack in vaccine! Because this level of stupid proves just how WRONG Darwin’s theory is. But oh how I wish it was true!
