Marine Officer Who Demanded Accountability for Afghanistan Officially Discharged But He Won't Be Silent
Townhall ^ | Dec 28, 2021 | Julio Rosas

Marine Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Scheller, who made waves after posting a video demanding accountability over the war in Afghanistan during the disastrous withdrawal in August, announced on Facebook right before Christmas he has been officially discharged from the Marine Corps, but that does not mean he'll be quiet.

Scheller said he will be going on a media tour to explain why he did what he did and what experienced in the aftermath, starting with appearing on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" on January 4:

"I was released from the Marine Corps today, Thursday, December 23rd, 2021. I am filled with mixed emotions. I would like to sincerely thank the Marine Corps for forging me into a man. And from the bottom of my heart, I’d like to thank all the Marines who served, led, bled, and suffered alongside me the past 17 years...Out of respect to my senior leaders, I haven’t done a single interview since this began. But now it’s my turn."

In the post, Scheller explained his "defeats after demanding accountability" which included:

"I was relieved of command, slandered as homicidal/suicidal by the USMC’s public affairs team, ordered to get a mental health evaluation, lied about in the investigation by my “friends”, denied my legal right to prefer charges against another service member beholden to the UCMJ, imprisoned under the false pretense of ‘flight risk’, left without basic items in prison for five days, offered a legal deal while held illegally in jail (you can’t be placed in pre-trial for a special court-martial), slandered again when my medical records and investigation were released to the media, fined 5K dollars, called a narcissist in my letter of reprimand, kept under a gag order for over four months, denied the ability to request mast twice, given the lowest characterization (General under Honorable Conditions) allowed by the plea deal, and lost my retirement."

He further thanked those who donated to him and his family while he was dealing with the resulting legal battle.

Scheller said in the initial video from August he knew the risks he was taking by speaking out over the handling of the war in Afghanistan, but he felt someone needed to speak up.

...

The reason people are so upset on social media right now is not because the Marine on the battlefield let someone down...people are upset because their senior leaders let them down and none of them are raising their hands and accepting accountability or saying, 'We messed this up,'" Scheller said.

"I'm not saying we've got to be in Afghanistan forever, but I am saying: Did any of you throw your rank on the table and say 'Hey, it’s a bad idea to evacuate Bagram Airfield, a strategic airbase, before we evacuate everyone,'" Scheller asked. "Did anyone do that? And when you didn’t think to do that, did anyone raise their hand and say 'We completely messed this up.'"

“I understand the frustration but to post videos online while in uniform, and in his office it looked like is a big no no as I understand it.”

My BIL retired from the Army after 38 years. He has near the top secret clearance and now works for a major defense contractor. He never discussed politics while active duty.

His now employer made it crystal clear in orientation no bad talk of biden or the current adminsitration. They do not want to be defunded or given a black mark.

Here’s the government’s mistake. If they had kept him, they could have assigned him to someplace with no internet, no phone and no ability to communicate. It could have been someplace where he’s the only one there. (The US has some 800 bases worldwide, most of which are not permanently occupied. They’re a fenced area with some buildings and maybe tunnels, an empty hanger and a fuel reservoir.) But by dismissing him, the lost control.

Yep. What I remember is anytime a civilian tried to solicit a political comment out of a military member the normal response was “no comment”.

Officers would usually act like they didn’t even hear it.

My bil was a a general who worked out of the pentagon.
When I went to their house I could never get him to discuss politics.

My sister came to our house and said she swore their house was bugged by the gov’t. Delayed voice on their landline phone etc.

Twelve Marines and a Sailor. All thanks to a guy who was able to play college football but somehow wasn't able to serve in the Armed Forces due to “childhood asthma”.

For the record, the 13 deceased servicemembers consist of eleven Marines, one sailor, and one soldier.

Anyone and everyone who ever spent time in Afghanistan knew to keep Bagram.

I wasn't in the military, had no military training, except shooting a rifle and pistol. Of course, have never been to Afghanistan.

A quick look at Google Earth shows Bagram and Kabul sit in a long, dumbbell-shaped valley, surrounded by mountains. Bagram occupies a wider area in the North, while Kabul occupies a smaller, tight section in the South, with only two north-south highways connecting them.

Any fool can see that if you give up Bagram, Kabul is immediately cut-off and surrounded. Are US Generals that stupid?

About every flag officer I've met in the last 15 years puts leftist politics first...so yes, beyond stupid IMO. We had a fair share of them prior to 15 years ago...they started cropping up under Bush 1's NWO and metastasized under Clinton.

I’ve said this before from the experience of 40 years in the defense biz I was always shocked at the number of left-wing officers (O-6 & above!) that I met.

And . . . an unknown number of Americans left behind to the tender mercies of the Taliban.

Forty years ago, the only liberal (not leftist) officer I came across on the USS Saratoga was the legal officer.

The officer corps cannot do any better than what the educational system puts out. Even our service academies are rotten.

Agree! I’ve had O-6s tell that O-6 is the transition point. You want to make flag then you’ve got to make some changes in your “values & attitude”.

Generals are political creatures and know to kiss political ass to get promoted and to stay active Applies to lower ranks too My CO was IMO more intelligent than her superiors but not good at saying nothing when superiors wrong So she got reassigned to I think it was fort Greeley, the old weathers testing command if I am remembering the name correctly
