“16- and 17-year-old Americans have proven that they possess the social responsibility and political maturity to help elect better leaders.”
Bwahahahaha. Stupidest thing on the Internet today.
I’ve been a proponent of raising the voting age for years. At least until they are no longer eligible to be on their parent’s insurance.
Hogwash....”proven that they possess the social responsibility and political maturity “
I would go with whoever is self supporting without government assistance.
If you are an independent 17 year old electrician apprentice, you get to vote.
If you are a 30 year old on welfare, you don’t.
Right to carry long guns in Wisconsin....
Ummmm...no.
I worked in a heavily Hispanic area for two decades and they were huge Trump fans in that area - lots of military, retired or otherwise, plenty of disgust and distain about “wokeness.”
I hired an national tree service to take down trees on my business property last summer. About 3/4 were hispanic. Most polite, hardest working guys I have ever seen in a long time.
Here is a biblical curse from Isaiah 3:12:
“As for My people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O My people! Those who lead you cause you to err, and destroy the way of your paths.”
Define property.
When you can get drafted, then you get the vote.
Pick a number. Any number.
Once one reaches that age, then you are an “Adult”, and you get all the rights and responsibilities of an “Adult”.
Until then you are a child.
Dems just searching for more votes because We The People ain’t buyin what they are selling.
I was going to suggest 30. It seems absurd but the lack of civics education in public schools, the 20 year war on boys, (toxic masculinity, ADHD, etc), and the lack of maturity I think it makes as much sense as giving 16 year olds the right to vote.
Land. And going to a hardware store to buy a 25lb bag of soil doesn’t count.
When I was in school, civics was taught in 6th grade. I’m sure this was on purpose, so that we’d have plenty of time to forget what we learned before we could legally vote.
So you don’t consider ownership of companies property? What is the minimum value of this “property” that is acceptable? Let’s say for arguments sake that it is $10 more than what your property is worth. Sorry, you can’t vote.
“One of the things taken out of the curriculum was civics. Civics was a class that used to be required before you could graduate from high school. You were taught what was in the U.S. Constitution. And after all the student rebellions in the Sixties, civics was banished from the student curriculum and was replaced by something called social studies. Here we live in a country that has a fabulous constitution and all these guarantees, a contract between the citizens and the government – nobody knows what’s in it…And so, if you don’t know what your rights are, how can you stand up for them? And furthermore, if you don’t know what’s in the document, how can you care if someone is shredding it?”
-Frank Zappa
Raise the voting age to 30 and require marriage, employment, and property ownership.
About covers it.
Note that while it may be true that 'many' teenagers have had a degree of maturity thrust upon them, that is not MOST let alone ALL of this population! Without casting unjust aspersions, this same population is also known for immoderate behaviors like binge drinking and dangerous driving! Add to this the countless times when such youth are asked such elementary questions about the reasons for celebrating Independence Day (from whom) or the century thereof and getting an utterly BLANK stare!
This tends to render this following statement from the article FALSE of the face without UNPROVIDED PROOF; "The time has passed for arguing that 16- and 17-year-olds are “not ready” to vote. They are better prepared to address crucial issues confronting our democracy than any generation since those who returned from World War II."
Thus, in the style of Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal", I propose that we permit such youth voting BUT on the basis of competency and make the requirement UNIVERSAL for ALL VOTERS! Such competency could be the US Citizenship test with a score of 80% perhaps? If the authors want more voters of that age or any other age, put that to the test!
Yes, this is a near impossible proposal but their logic and the proposal from it is WORSE! Utter claptrap!
Is the company on any land? Are you paying taxes on said company? Then by all means you should have the vote.
I’m referring to stock ownership, what if the company leases the land. Of course I pay tax on any realized gain on the sale. The problem with the outdated notion of land only is you have to have a minimum or you’re right back to the bag of soil issue. Or more likely George Soros or China (who owns tons of land) buys a parcel a parcel of land and divides it into many parcels and sells it to their liberal followers who didn’t previously own land for a minimal price.
