The Hunger Games was another one that backfired on the left. It was meant to target the evil republicans, but they didn’t realize how much it mirrored themselves.
It’s Netflix after all
An employer of the obama/nation
Thanks for mentioning that important point.
It’s important to me because that is why I have never seen a thing, nor will I ever see a thing...on Netflix.
Sounds like I’m not missing much.
My wife watched it last night without me because I already passed on it based on the cast. I saw the last five or ten minutes of it when I got home. The comet strike effects were impressive but I have a question. Why were all the people in the spaceship naked and was that really Streep’s dimpled ass or a body double’s? Since we never see the buns and the face at the same time I say a body double. I’m sure the exhaled Meryl Sreep feels above the need to expose her talents in that way.
Mea culpa. I just started viewing it. So far it’s obviously a comedy, but I don’t get any major hahas, except that the POTUS and her aparatchiks are utterly clueless and unconcerned about the end of the world.
I thought exactly the same.
THIS is from lefties? Do they not realize this is exactly how they behave? Do they think they’re portraying the right? Did they wake up from their nonsense?
...ok, we can rule out that last one.
Poor flick. Not funny. Not clever. Beats you over the head with its “satire”, rendering it painful. You will not laugh. You will groan.
--- spoiler alert ---
It follows two astronomers (a professor and a Phd candidate) who discover a comet headed for Earth. If this sounds like Armageddon that's because it is. Although in that movie it was a larger asteroid rather than a smaller comet. Also, instead of just 18 days we get roughly 6.5 months warning.
Here's the comedic part. The female President (how woke!) and her staff are far too concerned with elections and image and message to be bothered with it. Then a plan is hatched to deflect it with nuclear weapons. Again similar to Armageddon only this time they don't have to drill, just send a bunch of nukes up to blow it off course. (the benefit of having more time & distance) In another borrowed theme (really, is there an original thought in this movie?) Ron Perlman is going to lead this mission on a one-way trip. {cough} Armageddon, {cough} Space Cowboys {cough}...
The mission is aborted because a social media and phone company that looks an awful lot like Apple with some hints of Google and Amazon thrown in (mostly from algorithm references). I haven't quite figured out if the name "Bash" of the company means anything - Apple dropped the bash shell in favor of zsh but that's a bit esoteric. Maybe just foreshadowing. You see Bash's eccentric founder (and donor to madam President) {cough} Soros {cough} Bezos {cough} has come up with a plan to send robots to the comet. Apparently the comet is mineral rich.
Bash wants to break it up into smaller pieces, intentionally allow it to impact after being slowed down for controlled splash-downs in the Pacific. They send up robots to drill - back to Armageddon - and the robots look remarkably like the robot in the animated movie "The Incredibles" - really no new ideas here at all...
All in all I thought it was intended as a satirical spoof on the left's obesession with image/message at the expense of common sense and reality. Along the way there is a tv show that again is a caricature of the left's feel-good ignore the bad messaging co-hosted by a promiscuous over-educated self-centered ... nevermind.
If this movie was intended as a shot at conservatives it missed it's mark. It looks far more like heavy satire against most of the left. Since the writer/director is so concerned about climate change maybe he's just taking a shot at everyone left/right/center that are so wrapped up in their own little worlds and problems they don't see the bigger picture. No-one "looks up" and sees the comet coming until it is too late.
If that was his intent - to get people to "look up" and see the coming problem(s) of climate change... He missed the mark with me. I thought it was merely a funny movie and pretty good dig on the left and the current social media obsessed culture. It hasn't caused me to become concerned about climate change, hasn't even inspired me to think about climate change or re-evaluate my stance on it. In that regard - yet another failure of the left.
Yup. Seems like they shot themselves in the feet. Did they understand or did we take if wrong. I found it comical that the points they were making made more fun of how they behave. The skateboard kid that did the prayer was a very nice touch. Like when the time comes, God is in every foxhole. And streeps demise was awesome. Maybe no for everybody.
There were a few other Freepers there, but Troutstalker was the only one whose name I recall.
Watched it and it’s as close to a direct reflection of what the world is like as you can get...up to and including the greedy/woke multi-billionaires, clueless politicians and namby-pamby military leaders.
What? Torrent search site. Replace the “dot” with a period and no spaces. It’s there.
I know that.. but the original KAT went down a few of years ago, and some chinese company “replaced” it...
Of course reviwers would think the clueless president was Trump, but that is because they hate Trump.
But the laugh, the constant playing with her long hair, and the body language resembles Kamela.
Saw the whole thing now. Funny, but not worth a repeat view, imho. The ending is contrived. BASH could have just employed a back-up plan. In the event that the fragmentation fails, pack along a few nuclear warheads to deflect it the old fashioned way. But everyone sitting around the family table in the end was beautiful. Dr. Mindy did not die alone, so the head of Bash’s prediction for him was foiled.
