Many of the children tried to flee Afghanistan with their families but got separated in the chaos, advocates say. Some lost touch with their parents during the bombing at Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport. And some of their parents didn't survive the terror attack....

My gut tells me that 1/2 of those parents who sent their children out alone, do not expect to live. That they will be killed by the Taliban. They are giving their children the best opportunity to survive.

If you’ve ever been to a parade where there’s a cage on a wagon full of the locally famous people you’ve seen a bit of history, but with a modern less horrible twist to it. That is usually a fundraiser. You “buy” these people out of the cage. I haven’t seen this recently but it was more common when I was growing up.
Now, let me tell you the historical context of that cage, children, and never seeing your parents again.
My grandfather in 1890 (my mother was born in 1917 and just died recently. She had me in her forties, so, yes, my grandfather.) was living in Germany. He’d just turned 13. Every year the army sent around a horse drawn wagon with a cage on it. The soldiers would search each house, barn and numerus possible hiding places looking for boys who were of a certain age. That age varied, but if a boy looked healthy and hale, he’d be thrown into the cage. He’d just been inducted into the army. He’d be thrown into a huge barracks of much older men, some of whom where former prisoners who’d agreed (been forced) into army service. The German peace time army had the highest death rate in the world. Children, now soldiers, were raped and beaten, some until they died.
Now, concerned parents, who knew exactly what would happen, could buy their children out of the cage. Money was scarce and the soldiers would be back next year to repeat the process. So, to protect my grandfather my great grandparents pulled out their meager savings, gave it to him and sent him away with a grade school map of Europe. He walked…from Bavaria, to Portugal. I’d imagine it was one harrowing adventure, but he rarely spoke of it. He boarded a ship and came to America.
He never saw or was able to communicate with his parents again. He married a woman who was also from Germany. My mother said they despised Germany and refused to speak German ever again. Mom said they’d argue with a dictionary.
Her: “You pusillanimous!”
Him: “Give me that!” *flipflipflip* “Pusillanimous...pusa…pusc…pusi…” *readreadread* “Why you…”*flipflipflip* “Harlot!”
I also knew an Iranian who had converted to Christianity. He told me, approximately, “I never contacted my family at home again. They are adherents to a horrible religion and it would be my father’s duty to kill me and my children. I miss them so, but it would be crazy and dangerous to contact them.”
So, let’s not bleed too much for these “poor children who will never see their country or parents again.” Gimme a break.

MY GUT tells me that many of these kids are being trafficked. I’ve seen it over and over again, where after wars or disasters, the traffickers swoop in and snatch up a bunch of kids.
If your gut is correct, why would the parents stay behind, only to be killed? Wouldn’t they want out as well?
Remember the scenes of street kids rushing the planes? Lots of them made it on board. Kids with no identification and no way of determining age. As those who have worked in Afghanistan know, names and dates of birth aren’t fixed. Thus the FNU’s driving cabs with January 1 birthdays.
They’ll have to be a lot of DNA testing when they file immigration petition to be reunited with family.
Because they knew they would never be allowed to leave by the Taliban.
Have you not seen the photo’s of man and woman handing their infant over the wall at the airport?
Never in the history of the USA have we witnessed such a disaster as the withdrawl from Afghanistan.
It was an intentional signal to the evil in the world that the USA could be taken down.
And it is supported by most of the “leadership” in DC.

I knew a guy years ago who walked out of Cambodia with his family while the Khmer Rouge nipped at his heels the entire way. He walked with a pretty severe limp and I was helping him into a chair as we sat down to lunch.
I asked him what happened and his face clouded up. He told told of how 11 members of his family fled Phnom Pen just days before it fell to that gang of butchers. One of his uncles was a doctor at the hospital and stayed behind to treat the people who were too sick to leave.
He never heard from him again. His wife, my friends aunt, went with them.
It took them a month to get out and 7 of them died along the way either from disease or starvation. The limp came from setting off a land mine near the Thai border that killed his mother and his sister.
Of the 11 who started out only 2 of them made it. I apologized for asking and bringing up such painful memories. I was astonished at his response.
“People need to know what happened. No one believed it could happen to us. We were a normal middle class family. My uncle was a doctor. My aunt was a school teacher. Dad moved the rice to market so the people could eat. The communists murdered all of them. Now it’s only me and my cousin.”
Made quite the impression on me.

I knew about such stories as I read a lot. But the people I know have no clue...and the stories are so far from their regular lives, they have no time for them.
I marvel that people can get into a huff about gay rights or men with mental problems who want us to support their delusion that they’re women. Those things are so far from
“serious” issues I can’t be bothered by them.
It concerns me that the average American can’t imagine what the world is like. I had a liberal work mate who lived with his wife in a hundred-unit apartment complex. He never locked his door or his car because he didn’t believe anything could happen to him. While I knew him, nothing did. But that’s like walking through a mine field you don’t know is there and making it uninjured to the other side. Some people are just lucky. Stupid, but lucky.

There’s a lot of that. Those of us who have been to truly “poor” countries or ones involved in yet another of a seemingly endless series of civil wars have had our eyes opened to how truly bad things can get. And just how fast it can happen.
One of my brothers lives in the City of Chicago. He complains often about the gang bangers who shoot up the place but he refuses to leave. We don’t talk much anymore for a couple of reasons. One is Trump and the other is the fact that I won’t take that vaccine. That was the last straw with him.
He told me how selfish we are and how we don’t care about his family. I asked how I’m a threat if he and his family took the stuff but there’s no reasoning with him. He told me “you can go to Hell with the Orange Hitler you worship.”
That seems kind of final to me. It makes me sad as I’ve already lost one brother to cancer and another one to a life of crime and a (too short in my opinion) stretch in prison for embezzling over $100,000 from a Church his wife worked at.

I listened to the blacks I knew at work talk about their families. Wow! I’ve never had anyone on either side of my family get arrested, commit any crimes, or do anything other than “good.” Every one of them were entrepreneurs, and/or good parents, wonderful people. I’m listening to my work mates say things like, “Yeah, my dad gets out of prison in three weeks. My mom got pregnant while he was in and he’ll probably beat the **** out of her.”
Daughters getting pregnant at 13 is “normal.”
I am so blessed. My parents stayed married, raised three kids all of whom had wonderful careers.
I look at others and feel like the luckiest man alive.
