Prior to variegating the entire Continental Army they'd had a lot of problems from smallpox, including the failure of their invasion of Canada. Without this the war would likely have been lost. After it smallpox was no longer a problem for our forces. Doing so required lots of actions, including Gov. Patrick Henry signing a special bill to make its mandating legal for Virginians.

The DOJ is investigating school districts that do not have mask mandates.

And smallpox doesn't have an animal reservoir, as SARS-COV-2 does. But, yep, other than that, the two are exactly the same. :-)

It was still rather dangerous and many children had adverse reactions or died . . . but it was much better than smallpox. And adults seemed to handle it better.
Smallpox was not only deadly, but tended to blind its victims who survived - especially in Ireland, perhaps because of the weather or because of their very fair skin. There was an entire class of itinerant harpers (including the greatest of them all, Turlough O'Carolan) who were to a man blind.

I had sniffles the past 3 days, but they’re gone now. Does that mean I have natural immunity against Omicron? I also have natural immunity against Covid, from about two years ago.
