Burtonwood AFB near Warrington was the largest air force base in Europe at the time where many of the airlift aircraft originated. The base was where the B-17s were repaired during the bombardment of Germany during the war that were stationed all over England. There is nothing left of the base today as it is part of the Freeway near Warrington and much of it is a theme park designed after Gulliver’s Travels.
Howdy, Kathy.
A nice ending to Christmas weekend .... the final chapter of Berlin Airlift.
